Many times I've found myself repeating the African proverb "if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together," which has often sparked laughter (in a good way) because I'm a firm believer that this is how it should be. I'm the Co-coordinator of the Red Pro Bono de las Américas, a regional alliance that brings together over 22 pro bono initiatives from across the Americas. Thanks to the collective effort and contribution of each member, we've been able to achieve great things. From our Migration and Refugee report to our involvement in the development of a regulatory framework for neuro-rights, and even our advocacy for the creation of international standards regarding the regulation of fireworks in the Americas. These projects have been made possible through the dedication of lawyers committed to the pro bono cause and civil society organizations. Seeing the work accomplished through the combined efforts of selfless individuals restores my faith in a world that seems to crumble every day, but one that I'm confident we can rebuild. It's up to us to join causes that inspire us to be better and help improve the world we live in because when we work side by side, we can go as far as we desire. This post is a reminder to pause and reflect on where we're headed and what we're building. We have much to do. Without being asked, I'll leave you with a piece of advice: If you're unsure how to contribute, seek out topics that inspire you, find individuals who are already doing so, and connect with others. Before you know it, you'll be a grain of sand on a beach seeking peace and justice. #ProBono #HumanRights #CollectiveEffort

Amica Center for Immigrant Rights continues its mission of defending and pursuing strategic litigation throughout the US to benefit immigrant children and adults facing detention and deportation. Anti-Blackness is global and often baked into all of our social and political systems – rendering our immigration landscape no less susceptible. The immigration systems we are fighting to create MUST face and adequately address anti-Blackness head on, including the administration of the diversity visa lottery program, TPS designations, the disparate treatment of Black migrants in detention, removal proceedings, and the border. This also includes confronting the disparate narratives about Black migrants contrasted with their non-Black counterparts. In order to build truly holistic spaces from which immigration work can effectively spring forward, organizations dedicated to immigrant rights and racial justice must be dedicated to active, unwavering anti-racism and the work of dismantling the anti-Blackness prevalent in our ecosystems. This #BlackHistoryMonth we’re looking forward to uplifting movement partners and organizations doing this vital work and we invite others to follow and learn from our Black community leaders. We’ll also uplift voices that give some insights on the unique experiences shared by Black immigrants. ??

Multiculturalism is a foundational part of Australia's national identity. As our nation evolves, so too must our approach to multiculturalism, that is why I welcome this much needed reset to our multicultural framework. By making these changes, we can ensure that multiculturalism and our multicultural policies reflect the Australia of this century, not the last.

Focus on local authors (Pacific Northwest), Day 2 "True story--I am the mail order bride!" I love hearing Irina VanPatten say this to readers. I'm sure her (nonfiction) book Mail Order Family will steal your heart and teach you a thing or two about what it's like to come to America from Moldova and start your life over. Don't forget to look at the pictures of her and her family at the back of the book. She also wrote Welcome to America, Welcome Home. Here's a blurb about it: "Welcome to America, Welcome Home is based on multiple interviews with American immigrants of different backgrounds and cultures that provides a wealth of information from experts like Immigration and criminal lawyers, small business owners, financial advisers, psychologists, language professors, charity workers, civil rights activists and asylum seekers. Together these stories define what it means to be an American." These books are both particularly relevant now, with so much attention being giving to immigration. 2000s: Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues (CMYI) With the start of a new millennium, EYIN became the Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues (CMYI). The 2000s saw the introduction of many programs CMY still runs today such as Reconnect (then known as Reconnect Young Refugees), the Youth Referral and Independent Persons Program (YRIPP) and the Refugee Education Partnership Program (now known as RESP.) ? With 20 years as an organisation under our belt, CMY celebrated the milestone in 2008 with 'Many Voices, One Story,' a publication that details the history and work of CMYI at the time.
