I asked a counterpart at Netflix once, "How do emerging #filmmakers get their work seen by your team?" They said, "Their agent shares a screener or script with us." #Realitycheck. Most early career mediamakers don't have agents. The system is broken, people. You shouldn't have to get lucky with "who you know" or be the 1% that wins some highly competitive pitchfest. There continues to be few legit models out there that truly provide a #talentpipeline, with scale, for #diverse, underrepresented creatives in the arts and media. Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Bay Area Video Coalition are working to #changethesystem and build these new #career pathways. We will be discussing it at #NationalApprenticeshipWeek next Tuesday at LinkedIn. S/O SF Office of Economic & Workforce Development and TechSF .

UNLV Film and IFTA Foundation to Co-sponsor Internship Program During the American Film Market! According to Andi Isaacs, assistant professor and internship coordinator, "The AFM and IFTA are the lifeblood of the independent film world. There is no other event where distributors, producers, sales agents, and filmmakers can all gather in one place and discuss the state of the industry as well as the films currently being sold. Our students will have the incredible opportunity to sit down with these professionals, learn from them, and gain tremendous insight into the world of independent film."

The ability of brands to make people laugh was in the spotlight more this year at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity than ever before. Not just because as humans we're yearning for work that lightens the mood and gives us a break from the constant reminders of just how shit everything is right now, but because the festival added 'Use of Humour' to the Culture & Context subcategory across all Lions of the festival. So, I was paying extra close attention to the work that cut through to our collective funny bones... and I want to single one out in particular. As the Monday night awards were being dished out for the Audio & Radio Lions category, there was one entry that was played in the Lumière theatre that had the whole audience in stitches - Otter for Sandoz Deutschland. I really don't want to spoil the gag, as it's really worth experiencing for yourself - so please check it out on the creative's website here: https://lnkd.in/gXgYsQUg But a huge shout out to the junior creatives (Nidhi Shah & Rag Brahmbhatt) behind this work, two impressive Miami Ad School Europe students looking for their first permanent start in the industry. So, do please reach out via their website if you want two genuinely talented funny people joining your creative wings. #Lions #Humour #Creativity #Advertising #Radio #Audio
Could it be this easy?

We are doing something creative and fun in my special topics class. The name of the class is: Communication Strategy: Taylor Swift, TikTok, and reality television. My students are developing (and starting to post) their attempts at getting the most follows and comments and likes, depending on the social media platform you are using. If you see a post that includes #msumCOMMcontest check it out...I have at least one student who already has 220 likes...good strategy Maddy! https://lnkd.in/gYkX3NRW Here is one of her posts!

During my time here I have been able to get involved and meet so many wonderful people. I have been able to expand my knowledge both inside and outside of the classroom tremendously by becoming part of groups on campus, having internships, and talking to m

The harsh reality of the barriers to ‘making it’ in the TV / Film / Media industry if you don’t have the means to support yourself in the early stages of your career means more and more people from working class backgrounds are turning their backs on the creative industries, and who can blame them. There’s so much appetite amongst production people to address this but with budgets squeezed and generally less work out there the ability to take on new talent and pay and support them appropriately is getting harder and harder. Fundamentally what is needed is more investment from govt and industry bodies but we all know what the current government feels about the creative industries - just look at the cuts happening across higher education for humanities subjects.
Most working class kids wouldn't even consider traditional film / TV as a career; if they do get a toe in the door, entry level salaries mean it's a real struggle to survive without additional financial support. The huge amount of 'traineeships' doesn't address the fundamental challenges to providing access. They tantalise, then leave the youngsters hanging as the next class of trainees take their place on set. A total rethink is required.

For my internship we were told to find an article related to our internship, here's what I learned: Being a theater teacher is HARD, you have so much on your hands, casting the show, building a set, directing your students and so much more, but even with all of that stress on your shoulders, it's also such an enjoyable job, you get to connect with your students, tell them about your experiences, help them improve their skills, and overall have a good relationship with them. Reading this article I found so many things I can apply to this internship. Always make sure to always have good communication with students. Make sure to always know why you're there, make sure you can always tell yourself what the importance of teaching/interning is.

The basic principle of organising an event is to understand the clients goals and objectives, to understand the demographic of your audience & what success looks like for them, only then can you create something they will be happy with. You never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression, so hire professionals. If you want a chuckle, take a look at the new apprentice on how to get it horribly wrong! https://lnkd.in/dx_hWjU2

What if your biggest career break came from something completely unrelated to your field? That’s exactly what happened to me. While at Michigan State University, I signed up for an extracurricular project to fulfill a course requirement. It seemed straightforward: I would act in?Simple, a Langston Hughes play, produced by Black Notes Media Productions. I thought I’d gain exposure to studio production, meet some amazing people, and earn course credits. What I didn’t expect was that this experience would change my career forever. I walked away with a videotape of my performance in the play. That footage became the backbone of my first résumé tape and caught the eye of senior managers at a Detroit news station. This led to an internship, which eventually became my first job in broadcast journalism. The play had nothing to do with news, but it highlighted my potential—something I hadn’t even realized. Here’s what I learned: Exposure reveals hidden opportunities. Stepping outside your comfort zone is essential for growth. Saying yes to the unknown can lead to breakthroughs you never expected. So, the next time an opportunity comes your way, even if it’s unrelated to your field, say yes. You never know where it might lead. Don’t let fear hold you back. Has saying yes to an unexpected opportunity opened doors for you? I’d love to hear your story in the comments below.
