Fun video for transport nerds here on the making of the new Piccadilly line trains. I remember while at Greater London Authority challenging with then Board Member Michael Liebreich the Transport for London executive team on ensuring that the new stock would be future proofed for a low carbon (this was before Net Zero) economy. So, it's great to see the descriptions becoming reality on how they've lowered the weight, for example having intermediate carriages without bogies, and making them from an aluminium frame, to reduce energy usage. Lowering the weight also helps with cooling the tunnels, as much of the kinetic energy always ends up as heat. Looking forward to taking these new trains some time next year. https://lnkd.in/eDBPD8Y2

On Saturday we welcomed Gordon Pettitt, former General Manager of British Rail's Southern Region, and his family to London Waterloo for a very special occasion. Gordon took a surprise trip on the Bluebell Railway and Southern Electric Traction Group's (SETG) preserved Class 423 'VEP' unit. The train, number 3417, has been named 'Gordon Pettitt' in recognition of his many years of service to the railway, which includes his role as President of the Bluebell Railway.
