I recently attended Lightspeed Venture’s ‘Velocity’ event. Several things were unsurprising;
?? The panel discussion focussed on ‘The future of AI in the Enterprise’,
?? Lightspeed Ventures drew on its impressive network to throw another great event and
?? I was humbled (again) with the gaps in my knowledge surrounding AI topics [Me - actively googling technology as it was mentioned…].
Personal takeaways and areas to further explore following the ‘Velocity’ event:
1) Agentic AI – Performs actions autonomously, can make judgement-based trade-offs and is capable of setting goals & plans (like a human) based on changing conditions, without a human supervising or prompting it like ‘regular’ AI.
2) RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) – Provides Large Language Models (LLMs) to access information beyond their training data. So instead of using an enterprise’s ‘closed-book’ of internal knowledge, RAG can improve the quality of LLM-generated responses by drawing on external internet sources i.e. ‘open-book’.
3) Auto Eval (Automated Evaluation) – Measures quality, performance & safety in AI models. It enables ongoing evaluations that periodically run to monitor changes in an AI system. It automates the process of evaluating AI models, thereby streamlining development & deployment pipelines.
For those interested in the future of AI in the enterprise, a practical ‘start-small’ approach to harness meaningful value from AI should be on the agenda (at a minimum). With Generative AI estimated to potentially add up to $4.4Tr to the global economy, dipping the toe into a control environment is a risk averse and pragmatic way to pilot new AI technology. Elixirr has worked with its clients to prove demonstrable value in this way, and we are always happy to further explore challenges and opportunities via a chat, intro to our innovation network or if looking to explore wider topics, by taking part in one of our bespoke ‘Immersion’ Programmes.
Finally, thanks to Anna Klute, Dan Grunfeld and Lisa Han for hosting a great evening, looking forward to working together again soon and for next year! #LightspeedVentures #Innovation #AI
