Did you know the Jacob Javits Convention Center Expansion was honored this past year by the @DBIA National Design-Build Merit Award? This joint venture project joins a collection of recognitions from esteemed organizations like @AIA, @Engineering News-Record, the @American Council of Engineering Companies, and the @Building Trades Employers’ Association. ? In collaboration with design partner @tvsdesign, @Turner, and @Lendlease (Joint Venture) performed design-build services for the 1.2 million square foot expansion. In honor of last week's #NationalEngineeringWeek, we are spotlighting some of the key features that made the Javits Center expansion project one of a kind. ? ??? Design-Build Excellence: Working with Lendlease, tvsdesign, and all other design and engineering professionals on the expansion, The Turner Engineering Group (TEG) and Lendlease Preconstruction played pivotal roles in its success. Working through the structural scope, the team provided design optimization, risk mitigation, and design coordination solutions for the Javits Center project. One example of the design concepts analyzed by?the TEG team was the Gravel Drainage Layer. The analysis and work by the team offered schedule improvements through reduced excavation depth, removal of gravel, and plumbing installation.? ? ?? Sustainability at its Core: The expansion features a one-acre rooftop farm, emphasizing the client’s and the JV’s commitment to sustainability. The fa?ade adorned with bird-friendly glass showcases the dedication to harmonizing architecture with the environment. These elements not only elevate the project aesthetically but also contribute to a greener, more eco-conscious protocol. The Javits Center expansion would go on to earn and sustain a LEED Gold Certification. ? ??
