The assertion that freshers are of poor quality is a sweeping generalization that doesn't reflect the reality of India's robust talent pool. According to [Source: e.g., NASSCOM report, government statistics] - India produces lakhs of engineering graduates annually, with a significant percentage demonstrating strong technical skills. Moreover, equating a 20k INR stipend to fair compensation is outdated. The average cost of living in major Indian cities has risen substantially, making it challenging for freshers to sustain themselves on such a meager amount. Instead of focusing solely on cost-cutting measures, forward-thinking companies should invest in talent development and competitive compensation packages. By doing so, they can attract and retain top talent, driving innovation and long-term success. Let's foster a work environment that values and empowers young professionals, rather than perpetuating stereotypes and exploitative practices like this gentleman Vatsal Sanghvi #freshers #jobs #stipends #employee #opentowork #AI #NoHate #LIpost

IIT Bombay could not give jobs to 25% of its graduates 38% of IITian across 23 campuses are unemployed. Most of the IIMs are struggling to get placements for their students. The story is more dire for other colleges and other streams in India. Several studies have indicated that only 1 in 4 MBAs, 1 in 5 engineers, and 1 in 10 graduates are employable. I can relate to this firsthand as we interview hundreds of candidates year-round for various fresher positions. Both educational institutions and, more importantly, the young graduating students must make a massive effort?to skill themselves so that they are employable. It is high time that higher educational institutions move away from irrelevant curriculums and learning methodologies that will not benefit the students. A paradigm shift is also needed in the mindset of young job seekers. Most of them want to have the top remunerations without exhibiting an intent to work hard, take ownership, and perform. #employmentcrisis #jobs #workethics #careers #highereducation #reality

Recently, I came across news about an Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay student receiving an annual salary of INR 4-6 LPA, which left me quite surprised by such an entry-level figure. Additionally, it was noted that only 75% of the students secured placements. Curious ??, I reviewed the report on the institute's website. It turns out that the number of students accepting salaries in the INR 4-6 lakh range was very small—only 10 out of 2,414 registered students, which amounts to just 0.41%. This is true in any corporates whereby bottom 1% might be non-performers and will draw the least salary. When 1.3% of 12-14 Lakh (1.2-1.4 million) students are admitted to IITs they don't need to prove their academic capability anymore. They can just explore various avenues in IITs to discover their 'mojo' and excel in those areas. The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has just around 450 seats in the open category, translating to 0.03% of Indian students getting admission for undergrad studies. Few interesting facts from the report and about IITs ?? Second highest placement ever in spite of challenging job scenarios ?? Record (highest) 364 number of companies offered jobs ?? Job offers greater than 1 CR = 22 ?? PPO = 258 ?? International Job offers = 78 ?? Increase of average salary to = INR 23.5 LPA (7.7%?? increase compared to last year) Some of the unplaced students prefered higher studies, self-employment, or entrepreneurship over the jobs offered to them. I am sure they will ultimately create lot more jobs for the country. :-) The report summary as attached. #iitb #placement #jobs #campus

Such problem of talent shortage exists in almost all specialised fields and is a threat to India’s growth story. One of the key factors which will be guiding India’s economic growth will be our massive young population. At one end, more and more students are graduating, attaining degrees, adapting to new technologies, participating in workforce and building businesses, on the other hand, there is also a very huge proportion of young population which is failing to be employable. Going forward, the employment opportunities will only widen especially in specialisations and India is and will continue to be an interesting place to work. Hence, now, more than ever there is a need to actively look into changing high school/college curriculum aligned with industry requirement and the one which can provide first hand work exposure through compulsory internships, capstone projects etc can assist in this. For the long term sustainable growth of the economy, we need more engineering graduates participating in “engineering” led employment. And the only way it can happen is through, increasing government spend on higher education (college education), especially towards research and development and building quality educational institutions. *Views are personal*
