The plummeting cost of solar panels, thanks to China’s mass production, has made them cheaper, leading to the speedy growth of solar energy capacity worldwide. In 2023, solar energy constituted 6% of the world’s electricity, perhaps a tiny percentage, but it is set to expand and become the single source of electricity by the mid-2030s, according to The Economist projections (Sun Machines, 2024). #climateadaptation #greentechnology #renewableenergy #solarenergy https://lnkd.in/gXzuwr6c

Growth in building out solar and wind pushed the world past 30% renewable electricity last year for the first time ever. The pace of change is astonishing. Hydropower has historically been the dominant source of the world’s renewable electricity, providing around a sixth of the world’s electricity in the last two decades. But the newcomers on the scene — solar and wind — are driving all the recent growth. Together, they generated a record 13% of global electricity in 2023, double what they accounted for in 2017.

Global renewable energy generation is expanding rapidly, with global investment in solar power topping all other energy generation technologies combined. Did you know that the Netherlands has four times more solar capacity than Canada, with 16.6% of electricity generation in the country coming from solar? The country leads Europe in solar energy per capita, which is made possible through consistent government policies. With elections creating turbulence, there is a risk that the progress of renewable energy may come to a halt. Greengate understands the valuable contributions of renewable energy sources, such as solar, and continues to search for innovative ways to promote renewable energy technologies and policies throughout Canada and beyond. Green energy can reshape our world and lead to a cleaner, greener future. This is what excites us about this space ??
A solar farm of this size can support ~1,463,942 EVs annually, assuming an average annual mileage of 13,000 miles per vehicle and an energy consumption of 0.32 kWh/mile. This calculation is based on the hypothetical/unrealistic premise that the solar farm's entire power output is dedicated solely to charging EVs. But that's not the point. The point here is large-scale solar projects can transform the transportation sector and help us reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. There is no shortage of 200k acres in the US, we can totally build a similar project. https://lnkd.in/emq-wn9G

The world has passed a turning point in the history of energy In conclusion, the shift towards renewable energy sources like solar and wind power has reached a significant milestone, with renewables accounting for 30% of global electricity in 2023. This growth has been primarily driven by solar and wind, which together generated a record 13% of global electricity, double the amount from just a few years ago. #Solar power, in particular, has seen remarkable growth, with installations in 2023 exceeding all previous forecasts. China has emerged as a leader in solar #energy, installing more solar panels in one year than the #US has in its entire history. Despite this progress, there is still untapped potential for solar power in many sunny countries. While wind power faced challenges in 2023, long-term trends suggest continued growth, especially in offshore #wind. The decline of fossil fuel-powered generation is now imminent, with 2023 likely marking the peak of emissions in the power sector. The #future of #clean electricity depends on the continued growth of #renewables. The costs of this transition are outweighed by the benefits, including a more sustainable planet and more secure energy sources. https://lnkd.in/dvSENcWR

EU: Higher #solar targets – but #grid and #storage planning insuffienct With 26 of 27 EU Member States having submitted their National Energy and Climate Plans solar targets have increased by 87%. Despite the boost NECPs fail to connect the dots with grid deployment, modernisation, and flexibility. EU countries are banking on #renewables more than ever before, with solar energy targets shooting up by an average of 87%. However, grid and flexibility planning trail far behind renewable goals, putting the energy transition at risk, a new analysis of SolarPower Europe shows. #photovoltaics #pv #climateplans #NECP #solarenergy https://lnkd.in/eRND4cxm

Since 2019, the EU has achieved a remarkable 65% increase in wind and solar capacity, reducing fossil fuel reliance and driving a 46% rise in renewable generation. Fossil fuel generation dropped by 22%, thanks to the surge in wind and solar power. Germany and Spain led the way, with impressive contributions across 14 other Member States. The EU’s electricity mix now ranks among the cleanest globally, with emission intensity dropping to 244 gCO2/kWh – half the global average. I'm always looking to connect with more people wanting to accelerate the energy transition. ???? #GreenEnergy #Renewables #Sustainability #recruitment Source: [renews.biz](https://lnkd.in/eizin2mt)
