When taking on business insurance, your provider asks a series of questions that get to the bottom of what services your business provides, the locations you attend and the items you inspect. You make an assumption that they then provide a policy that covers you for everything and you tend to half-arse reading through the small print (not speaking for everyone here) Recently, a member of ESiNet informed us all that a provider many of us were using didn't even come close to covering us for the diverse works we carry out as Engineer Surveyors. Fortunately for me, he told us to reach out to Konsileo for a chat. I immediately got through to the right people who knew exactly what it is we require as statutory examination companies. Matt James Dip CII and Lee Salt really went to town on the questioning front to ensure that all the bases were covered, even wanting to know the safe working loads and working heights of the tower cranes I examine. Within a couple of days, they'd scoured the globe for a policy that was right for me and my business. It feels rather good knowing that you're fully covered rather than just assuming you are... Modernising insurance, selling tech into insurance. It’s a toughie! Good panel discussion at the Insurtech UK conference yesterday on this topic. Some headlines; ??Wholesale rip & replacement solutions are not the way to go. Niche offerings as part of a wider tech ecosystem will get more traction. Keep listening and researching to find your value, tweak and pivot as needed. ??Don’t blindly demo tech to insurers. From the get-go (meeting #1 ) eek out the prospect’s need/problem and stay focussed on how your solution answers that need throughout the sales cycle. ??Break your solution down into smaller buyable bits. Get a foothold and build and scale from there. ?? Most clients need to achieve impact within a financial year or limited plan period so ensure your investment ask and reward fits with this. Focus on boosting their bonus. ?? Find a champion client but bear in mind the window of opportunity can be short before a structural change upsets your progress. Great facilitation Adrian Leonard . Reading about the acquisition of Onlia didn’t surprise me, but it did spark a sense of excitement for what the future holds for the company and its customers. Having been a part of Onlia for a brief period, I recognized its potential to revolutionize the industry with a tech-based solution designed to simplify the insurance buying and servicing experience for a new generation of digitally savvy consumers. However, as the days passed, I began to realize that despite the numerous reasons why this was a fantastic opportunity to disrupt an antiquated industry, there were equally compelling reasons that hindered progress. One can still come across stories of fragmented and disjointed customer experiences online, reminiscent of my time there. During my time at Onlia, I was privy to the teething troubles of a young organization. The focus was heavily on tech and customer enablement around tech. However, this led to some hiccups, with customers sometimes feeling frustrated due to the time taken to process even simple tasks. But every new venture has its learning curve, and these experiences were part of that journey. Now, as I look back, I see these as stepping stones that have led to where Onlia is today. The lessons learned have undoubtedly contributed to shaping a more robust and customer-centric approach. So here’s to Onlia Insurance! Congratulations on this new chapter. Something like that is brewing in online insurance - the uberisation of insurance. Enter POSP / point-of-sales persons: a fast-growing business for Policybazaar, Turtlemint - and the company that took the lead on this front, Insurancedekho. The POSP biz consolidates insurance field agents on online-insurance platforms. But there is a huge cost to this fast-growing business: commission charges. ??
