I've been privileged to work with brands and agencies across disciplines in my career. Public relations. Advertising. Media. Technology. But, at the end of the day, I was trained and remain a communicator. I love to write. I enjoy the process of listening, interpreting and then translating what needs to be said and the right way to say it.
I'm also pretty voracious in my reading of leadership books. Those penned by philosophers, CEOs, generals or others. They always teach me something. And, fairly consistently, they remind me of the power of clear, simple and direct communications.
So it is, I read the below today from newly-anointed Starbucks CEO, Brian Niccol, and nodded along with respect and admiration for the words, the sequence and the sentiment.
Simple. Honest. Self-aware. Clear. Compelling. And, quite related, not filled with fluff, jargon or superfluous stuff.
A masterclass. Well done.
