??Planting: Nature's Partnership for a Thriving Garden ?? ? Why Planting? Planting is more than just placing plants side by side. It’s about creating a diverse ecosystem that supports natural growth and sustainability. Here are some key benefits: ? Pest Management: Certain plants can naturally repel garden pests. For example, marigolds emit a scent that discourages nematodes and other insects. Pollination Boost: Increasing floral diversity attracts and supports a variety of pollinators, enhancing crop yields. Resource Efficiency: Planting certain crops together can optimize nutrient uptake, reduce water usage, and maximize space in the garden. ? “Implement Planting in Your Garden” ? #CompanionPlanting #SustainableAgriculture #GardeningTips #EcoFriendlyFarming #AgriculturalInnovation

Hej allesammen! Let’s talk gr?n! ?? We've talked about #bughotels and #insectspots on your balcony, but did you know your entire #garden can be a haven for #pollinators like bees, butterflies, and more? ?? When planting a #diverse range of native #flowers, #herbs, and #shrubs, you can provide essential #food and shelter for these crucial creatures. Pollinators play a vital role in our #ecosystem, helping plants reproduce and ensuring we have bountiful crops and beautiful landscapes. Here’s how you can create a pollinator-friendly garden: - Plant a variety of flowers that bloom at #different times of the year ?? - Choose #native plants that attract #local pollinators ?? - Provide a #watersource, like a shallow dish with stones for landing ?? - Skip the pesticides and go #organic ?? June Garden Tips: Part 4! Certain weeds begin their cycle over winter – onion weed is among the most persistent and difficult to eradicate. The long, strappy leaves have a pungent allium scent, but don’t confuse them with society garlic (Tulbaghia spp.), a common ornamental. Like many alliums, onion weed forms many small ‘bulbils’ around the main bulb underground. Pulling out a clump by hand can disturb the bulbils and cause them to break off and propagate. Physical removal is best done by carefully digging up and disposing of the entire clod of soil, to ensure the whole clump is removed without a chance to break up. Chemical methods are effective, but consult a qualified horticulturist first – herbicides are hazardous and environmentally harmful if used incorrectly. #landscaping #gardendesign #garden #gardens #plants #houseplants #flowers #growyourown #landscapedesign #plant #gardenlife #gardeninspiration #botanical #plantlove #wildlife #ecofriendly #conservation #biodiversity #environment #ecoconscious #gogreen #greenliving

Protecting Pollinators-Our Endangered #Backyard Species: https://buff.ly/37p3nao The animals that pollinate the flower beds of our backyards, along our pavements and outside our offices are in a rapid decline. So how does this affect us? Without pollinators, the human race would face a serious food shortage because most plants, including those that produce our fruits, nuts and vegetables, depend on them. Many pollinators are insects and according to a February 2019 study, 40% of the world's insect species are in decline and the total mass of all insects on the planets is decreasing by 2.5% per year. By all counts, these are bleak statistics. This is because pollinators face a variety of challenges, such as habitat loss from degradation and fragmentation, competition with invasives (species not native to the region that can damage the local ecosystem), and poisoning by pesticides. As an individual, it’s difficult to see one’s impact on massive issues such as climate change. That can be disheartening. But you can always make and see a difference in your own backyard and know that you’re helping to combat a global problem. You can literally make the world a better place with informed gardening. It's National Allotments Week! This week, we’re highlighting the vital role allotments play in promoting biodiversity. They’re not just about growing fresh fruits and vegetables, they’re also havens for wildlife, pollinators and plants. Here’s how allotments make a difference: - Allotments offer a variety of habitats, from compost heaps and ponds to wildflower borders and hedgerows, which support insects, birds and small mammals. - With a mix of flowers, vegetables and herbs, these green spaces provide essential food for bees, butterflies and other pollinators. - Practices like no-dig gardening, crop rotation and composting keep the soil healthy and full of life, benefiting the whole ecosystem. Do you have an allotment? We’d love to see how you’re making a difference - share your stories and photos with us!
