?? Northern lights and our young stars! ?? Last week, our Associates got a rare treat—an incredible display of the northern lights while attending our professional development retreat, KJ Academy, out in Ashland. ?? KJ Academy is all about helping our Associates in years 2-3 and 5-6 grow their skills, see the world through our clients' eyes, and strengthen their ability to become trusted advisors. Over two days, they explored topics like Gallup strengths-based leadership, business community involvement, personal finance, and effective communication and conflict resolution. They also heard directly from those we serve on a panel about the client mindset, gaining valuable perspectives on our partnership. A big thank-you to our fantastic lineup of speakers who made this experience so enriching. But it wasn’t all work! We kicked things off with dinner at Pasta Amore alongside our Shareholders. The next day, we enjoyed a delicious meal at Round the Bend Steakhouse and capped off the evening with dessert and wine at Cellar 426 Winery—just in time to catch the northern lights in all their glory! ??? Grateful for the opportunity to work with Maya Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and support their merger with Omaha Permaculture as pro bono counsel. As we enter the fourth quarter of 2024, employers should be mindful of the second phase of the U.S. Department of Labor's salary threshold increase under the FLSA. The first phase took effect on July 1, 2024, while the second is scheduled for January 1, 2025. However, ongoing legal challenges have put the implementation of the Final Rule under review, with a ruling anticipated before the new year. Last Friday, our Intellectual Property professionals took a hike, as many have politely and impolitely suggested over the years that we do. We clipped along in Omaha's Fontanelle Forest at an arduous pace of 40 minutes per mile, and then immediately lost any limited benefit by dining at Mio Italiano, a restaurant I highly recommend. Thanks to John Matson, Magee Kopecky, Certified Paralegal, Kelly Custard, Grace Felder, Catherine Petersen, Emily Coffey and Kayla Helgoth for being such an awesome team to work with! It was great to hang out with you all!
