What can REX partners learn from Donald Trumps election victory? In competitive verticals like IR, Crowdsourcing, SFAs, POS data there are essentially three key deciding areas when CPGs select a REX partner. ?? Tech capabilities are often very similar with a narrow margin of difference. ?? Market place and region, plus the intervention of procurement will find the floor price for terms. ?? Commercial maturity is increasingly separating the winners from the losers. Commercial maturity covers many areas and includes... ?????- The best story always wins. Trump beat Harris with a better narrative - Economy and Immigration. Winning REX partners always have the best story, not always the best tech and or commercial terms. ?????- Feasibility market visits make a difference - Getting closer to the real issues (Trump) rather than celebrity endorsement (Harris). Or REX partners going to trade show across the world rather than pro-active market visits during the solutioning stage. ?????- Building a winning team. Rex founders need a blend of fluid intelligence (youth) and crystallized intelligence (maturity and experience) to understand CPG processes, pain points and how to navigate the CPG maze. Friends of a major investor and recycled SAAS salespeople are not always winners... Last four years have been interesting in both US politics and connecting with, tracking many and advising both winning and losing REX partners. Key takeaway from my last four years - Winners always have had higher levels of "Commercial Maturity".
