In this paper in Glass Structures & Engineering - Springer, Alessandra Luna Navarro and colleagues from ReStruct Group | TU Delft and the Architectural Facades & Products Group at Delft University of Technology show how to assess human perception of glazing deflections. The thickness of glass in facades is often governed by this serviceability limit. So measuring the perceived deflection is an essential step for reducing the thickness (and embodied carbon) of glazed facades. Initial results indicate that humans are mostly sensitive to reflections in the deformed glazing and that the current serviceability limits could potentially be relaxed.
