At Divergently, we're invested in women's mental health at the individual level, but also at the policy level! Today, we're excited to share that alongside Glamour and Paid Leave for All, we're participating in a national campaign to pass paid family leave. Why paid leave? Because money and mental health are intertwined. Families in America lose more than $22 billion a year in wages without the support of a federal paid leave program. There is a cost, and we all pay it — workers, businesses, and the economy lose as a whole. What has paid leave cost you? Wages? Your relationships? Health? Share your story in the comments below or sign the petition (link in comments) to help us make paid leave a national policy. #PaidLeaveForAll. #NoPaidLeaveCostMe

To all the dads out there:?What’s one thing your employer could have done to make your transition into fatherhood smoother? ?? Let me know in the comments ?? We all know new parenthood changes everything. It’s time UK businesses recognised that and stepped up: statutory paternity leave isn’t enough anymore. ??♂? Here’s what we can do: ? If you’re a leader in an SME, start the conversation. ??? Can you offer flexible schedules, additional leave, or even part-time return-to-work schemes? ? If you’re in a large corporation, challenge the status quo (aka your HR policies). ?? Benchmark against organisations like John Lewis or Aviva, which offer generous, inclusive leave policies. #DoBetterForDads #FutureOfWork #WorkplaceWellbeing

As I’m waiting at the hospital - for the birth of my first child - I should be ecstatic. But to be honest, stress is still the main feeling. Don’t get me wrong, I am excited and this is something I’ve wanted for a long time. Lots of planning and preparation was made to try and ensure the best possible start. But life is never as you plan it. Unlike the vast majority of parents in this country, I won’t get any paternity pay or even a single day of paid paternity leave. My previous employer owes me over £12k, wage theft covering months (40+ hours per month for June,July, and August) of hard work and uncounted overtime. Continuously telling employees that the money is ‘so close’ and we just have to wait another week or two. I won’t see a single penny of it from them, and best case scenario I might be able to claim about £5k back from the government as they’ve chosen to enter voluntary liquidation. Even the current best case scenario, means that I’ve had over £7k stolen from me as well as losing my rights to paternity leave/pay. It frankly sickens me that a homeless person can be arrested for stealing a sandwich, and yet a company can steal tens of thousands from employees and go into liquidation with impunity. Situations force us to be resilient and grow, but I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.

Benefits aren't important Said nobody?? Paternity leave in the UK is 2 weeks. I was on Paternity leave in November 2020 for 6 weeks. And again in June 2022 for 6 weeks. 12 weeks Paternity leave and 12 weeks full pay. My wife had 2 c-sections and second time a uterine rupture. Probability of ?? = 0.5% Being off meant I could look after my sons and my wife without worrying about money. And made me feel valued as an employee. To summarise: Providing excellent benefits makes your employees feel: 1. Valued 2. Work harder 3. Happy Let me know the best benefits that you have come across in the comments below.
