? What's your school's vision? I've delivered inset sessions at two amazing trusts this week and the clarity in their vision is remarkable. ? The motto of The Cornerstone Academy Trust in Devon is 'Fortune favours the brave' and it's plastered right next to the climbing wall (clearly the perfect spot!) But that belief in innovation, in daring to do things differently goes far beyond scaling heights, and is so clear in their approach to T&L. They champion a 1-1 device model and tech is central to the way their children learn; Bedrock Learning's personalised vocabulary curriculum is used as part of the children's self-directed study. A fabulous family of schools and I'm looking forward to our continued work together this year. Then for the past two days, I've been working with the formidable team at Inspiration Trust. Bedrock is working to support them deliver the goals of their reading strategy, specifically around language acquisition and reading comprehension. It's been a joy to work with a (quite massive!) group of teachers who clearly understand the importance of the mission before them, who have already done so much to embed Tier 2 and 3 vocabulary growth into their practice and who are excited about the next phase. I think they're a great example of what can happen when a MAT has a unity of vision, paired with a deep understanding of individual school context. Enjoying Day 1 at TEACHx at Northwestern University. In particular, I attended the "Play and Improve" session to kick-off the event, and it was wonderfully engaging. This is not a coin. Tomorrow, we graduate our first cohort of multi-year seniors from the Mastery Learning System at Avenues The World School. This commemorative coin, being presented to all of the students who participated in the building of the Mastery Learning System at Avenues NYC, represents 8 years of the most complicated, difficult work that can be imagined. It commemorates a historic moment both for Avenues and the world of education: The formal establishment of a innovative, transformative educational model, based upon research, that challenges the traditional model of #education. We accomplished this achievement together with an extraordinary team of #students and families who had the courage to join us from our initial pilots and who believed, unwaveringly, in the vision of the program. They are truly a vanguard. Over they years, we did it with master #teachers and staff who participated in and who challenged the system with love, endeavoring to create a substantial Self-Determined Learning environment in the school. We were in unchartered territory together. Every piece of feedback and criticism that we acted upon made us stronger. And we did it with #leadership who tirelessly supported us and urged us to carry on the work, even in our toughest moments. Our deepest, most heartfelt thanks, love, and friendship go out to all of you for helping us lift this. Perhaps most exciting, the model is both adaptable and replicable for any school who is up for a challenge. More to come on that. This isn’t a coin. It’s the start of a revolution. Last week I had the incredible opportunity to attend the FYE conference in Seattle, WA. Over 2,000 educators came together to share experiences, discuss ideas, and collaborate for one common goal - the betterment of student learning, development, and success in the first year of college. I’ve learned so much. As I slowly unpack it all, I am reminded that when we reengineer or redesign a system, it must work towards the success for ALL students. While I went from one session to another, this stayed at the forefront of my mind. How can this help students? Does this enrich student success? Does this put students first? I hope to take what I’ve learned to improve services and practices with a students-first mindset. #fye2024 #fyeconference #studentexperience #studentsuccess

Today in my Theory of Knowledge class, I had a remarkable experience that reminded me of the power of perspective. As part of our exploration of perspectives, I asked my students to first look around the room from their seats and then to stand on the tables to observe the same room from a different angle. The insights and discussions that followed were nothing short of inspiring. Seeing the world from my students' eyes taught me as much as it taught them. Their ability to view the same environment from multiple angles reinforced the essence of TOK - the importance of TALK and sharing diverse viewpoints. It's a beautiful reminder that learning is a two-way street, and as educators, we are constantly growing alongside our students. The Theory of Knowledge is not just a subject; it's a way of understanding the world through different lenses.
