Equal Supported Employment North Ayrshire is a supported employment service that guides people with long-term health conditions and disabilities into work and training. It comes under the banner of our Employability Service’s Your Next Move, Working North Ayrshire programme. And it offers a wide range of tailored support to get people back into work, start work for the first time or take a step up the career ladder. The team is leaving its office in the Trinity Church annexe building in Irvine for a brand new base – with more space, providing better outdoor opportunities and enhanced facilities in modern surroundings – at Lochshore Park in Kilbirnie. I was previously working in another local authority moved I made the decision to move to Coventry in May 2021. I have not looked back since. My journey to social work has not been an easy one. However, one thing I can truly share is the level of support you are offered in Coventry is second to none. As an employer, Coventry is supportive and has helped me grow through opportunities inside and outside the organisation. The process for development in my role is clear, and opportunities are often presented. Managers have been supportive of my needs. Managers are always around for advice and guidance when required. Although the role has its many challenges, however the rewards will always outweigh the challenges we face. When seeing the glimmer’s of hope, positive in families lives and when we reflect on the changes and impact, we have made the job completely worth it. Gathering There are different types of gathering *Assembly in schools *PTA meeting also in school *Staff forum at work *Member meeting in Church Venturing into this career as a Human Resource Manager, I have discovered that gathering people any point in time is very stranouse, At school I was thinking maybe because they are much younger but I have come to realised that it is even easier to gather children than adults. This is where you will see that managing people is very tasking but today I did something different, you know what? I attached an incentive to my message"the first 10 to get there 5minutes before the time get a gift" Before 9am I got more than 10staff sitting at the hall. I said waoh. I have to go learn more tips. Our ethos when it comes to upskilling people and helping them to get back into meaningful employment after experiencing homelessness is to train then hire. This means that we bring people into roles as tour guides feeling confident, inspired and ready to use their new skills. It also means that people have a whole load of new skills that might help them into other roles if they decide being a guide isn't quite right for them. That could be confidence, public speaking or story telling, all great transferable skills. Every post-pandemic employer in America with front line workers has had to be creative with recruitment and retention efforts. Some employers are still talking about whether or not people should show up for work -- five years later. Public service employees have to show up. It's not really a choice, which is both challenging and clarifying for employers and employees alike. Public safety recruitment and retention has been particularly difficult. But, our team has taken the challenge to develop initiatives that are attractive to talent.
