?? Big news in the fintech world! Jupiter has just received the Prepaid Payment Instruments (wallet license) from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This new license allows Jupiter to offer digital wallets to its users for making UPI payments. Key highlights: Jupiter already offers digital savings bank accounts with money management features like real-time spend insights, tracking liquid assets, and personalized savings goals. The company has an NBFC license to lend on its own books. Jupiter was valued at $710M during its $86M Series C round in December 2021, and has raised over $160M to date. The platform competes with Niyo, Slice, and Fi, among others. Operating revenue in FY23 was Rs 48.86 crore, a significant increase from Rs 18.85 crore in FY22, though losses also surged. Mojaloop: Mojaloop is an open source software platform that enables digital financial services and interoperability between different payment systems. The aim is to lay the foundation for the creation of inclusive payment ecosystems by connecting people, businesses and financial institutions. ?? Project Open Bank: The Open Bank Project provides banks, fintech companies and developers with an open API to access banking data and services. It allows third-party developers to create applications that promote financial inclusion, such as: Account merging, transaction history and payment initiation. ?? Mifos Initiative: The Mifos Initiative provides an open source platform for microfinance institutions and community banks. Their API, known as Mifos X, enables companies to manage customer data, accounts, loans and savings products. It enables financial institutions to expand their offerings and reach disadvantaged social groups. ?? These are just a few examples of open APIs for financial inclusion. It's important to understand the specific features and requirements of each API to determine which one best suits our needs. Additionally, new initiatives and platforms may emerge over time. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions experienced a 3% increase in volume in August 2024, reaching 14.96 billion, up from 14.44 billion in July. This volume marks the highest since UPI's launch in April 2016. However, the total transaction value saw a slight decline, falling to Rs 20.61 lakh crore in August from Rs 20.64 lakh crore in the previous month.
