It was an honor to present at the prestigious 6th International Business Research and Industrial Conference (@IBRIC 2024) hosted by #Kenyatta_University's School of Business, Economics and Tourism. My speech, titled "Innovative Corporate Governance for Sustainable Hospitality and Tourism Industry," explored improved governance systems for sustainable tourism businesses. I had the opportunity to read and review "Scenario Planning and Tourism Futures: Theory Building, Methodologies and Case Studies" by Dr. Albert Postma, Stefan Hartman, and Prof. Ian Yeoman before its publication. The book is an exceptional resource, providing a comprehensive exploration of scenario planning as both a theoretical framework and a practical tool for navigating uncertainties in tourism. Its insights into resilience, strategic foresight, and adaptive management make it highly recommended for anyone involved in tourism policy planning and future studies. ?? Graduated! MBA International Tourism and Hospitality Management in the pocket! ?? I’m thrilled to share that I’ve officially earned my MBA in International Tourism and Hospitality Management at BEBS Barcelona Executive Business School! Here’s my journey so far: ? Life Sciences bachelor ? 8 years of work experience across diverse sectors ? Founded V-Connect at 26 years old ? Founded GINI at 29 years old ? Earned my MBA at 30 years old ? Probably founding MATI at 30 ?? No kids or partner yet ?? Financially ruined ? ?? Still very excited and motivated Last Wednesday, I defended my master’s thesis at BEBS, presenting a business plan for TravelBuddies (soon to be called MATI) an app designed to connect people through shared experiences. Big shoutout to Emilia Szypnik for co-writing our thesis! Alongside my own thesis, I also had the privilege of assisting Ishleen Singh, Simone Scarlata and Szymon Gladysz on their inspiring project for a pet hotel business in the NCR region of India. The MBA itself? Not the hardest part. But juggling it alongside 'two' start-ups and countless responsibilities? That was a challenge. Through this programme, I deepened my knowledge of business management and learned so much about the tourism industry. Honest story: I didn’t attend a prestigious Dutch university like Erasmus, Radboud or Nyenrode. With an applied sciences bachelor and an average GPA of 7, my applications were rejected... I’ve been forced to be financially independent since I was 17, working 30-40 hours a week at a Chinese restaurant and a pet shop while pursuing my applied sciences degree. This journey taught me resilience, hard work and grit. And honestly? Those lessons are worth more than a perfect GPA. Wouldn't want it any other way! But I do want to focus less on my constant need to prove myself with degrees and professional accomplishments and more on balancing work and personal life. Life waits for no one! ??
