Very smart, very purposeful people lead this company, and they are smart all the way down. However, the partnership structure, where incentives are tied to the growth of profitable revenues, carries great risks. Still, a Moses-like lawgiver of pristine integrity at the top can make all the difference. Even so, when the business model involves pyramids founded on young, ambitious, performers who have only known A's and elite universities and every step an upward one... there's a lot of scope for trouble. Every great partnership had a great founder and a great visionary (sometimes but not always the same person) who put the civilization, values, and culture of the organization above personal ambitions. Goldman Sachs had that. McKinsey had it too.
