Good to see this direction from ASPA. It builds on the work of #AustralianLearningLecture which developed Beyond ATAR: a proposal for change. The position paper represented an extended collaboration with leading educators, academics and policy experts following ALL’s second lecture where global education leader Charles Fadel challenged Australian educators to improve the transition from school to work and study. The proposal put forward three inter-locking recommendations including designing a Learner Profile as a common way of representing the full range of attainments that young people gather during their transition years and urging tertiary education providers adopt broader, more transparent entry criteria and pathways that align with learner’s aspirations and abilities. Should higher ed be everything to everyone? I’m noticing a trend right now in that direction: - community colleges offering 4-year degrees - liberal arts schools offering hard science specializations - public university systems offering PhD programs. There is nothing wrong with adapting and evolving. It’s critical if schools hope to remain relevant. Society is changing; higher ed should, too. But those changes should be guided by fulfilling your school’s unique mission. Who are you here to serve? You can try to be everything to everyone. But in my experience, schools succeed when they are true to themselves. #highereducation #highereducationleadership

I am very aligned on two key messages - first the we need to be more transformative in higher education to adapt to next normal and make sure people are more future ready.
