The brain is SO hugely important when it comes to behaviour and understanding more about how the brain affects behaviour is crucial in Veterinary Behaviour Medicine.?????? In this episode, we dive into genetics, epigenetics, early development and physical health and how all of these impact the brain and, ultimately, behaviour.?????? ??The Pet Behaviour Chat on Apple Podcasts?? https://lnkd.in/duFnN3yJ #VeterinaryBehaviourMedicine, #PetBehaviour, #BrainHealth, #GeneticsAndBehaviour, #Epigenetics, #AnimalWellness, #PetPodcast, #AnimalBehaviour, #PetHealth, #BehaviourScience, #VeterinaryBehaviourist, #PetBehaviourChat, #PodcastEpisode, #CanineBehaviour, #FelineBehaviour,

A New Way to Study Canine Hearts ? In a study published in Science Direct on December 10, 2024, researchers from Nanjing Medical University recently explored a cutting-edge heart imaging technique called transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Unlike traditional methods that look at the heart from outside the chest, TEE places an ultrasound probe in the esophagus, offering clearer and more detailed images of the heart. ? In their study, researchers used TEE to examine heart function in 37 healthy Beagles, focusing on important details like heart muscle efficiency and how well the heart pumps. They found it particularly useful for deep-chested dogs, like Beagles, and believe it could help improve care for breeds with heart issues. ? This innovative approach not only advances veterinary care but also opens doors for research into heart diseases across species. Our review explores trilostane, a veterinary drug with potential beyond its current use. While primarily for animal diseases, trilostane’s ability to stimulate neurosteroids production may make it valuable for conditions like epilepsy, anxiety, and depression in both humans and animals. "Trilostane’s effects on multiple systems suggest it could enhance brain resilience, reduce neuroinflammation, and prevent severe outcomes linked to seizures, depression, and trauma." ?? The preprint version is available here: [https://lnkd.in/dZ2mnEAa] Special thanks to Prof. Biagini for his guidance! #PhDLife #Research #Trilostane #Neuroinflammation #Epilepsy #UNIMORE

Cats may help neuroscientists better understand age related brain decline in humans. A project called "Translating Time," which has been gathering data since 1990 on brain development in 66 mammalian species, found that cats may be better models for human brain aging than mice, for example, because cats live longer. Mice don't usually live longer enough to experience cognitive decline, but cats do. A new project at Auburn University, called the The Catage Project has so far gathered data submitted from more than 3000 client-owned cats and are using the data to compare human and cat age development. Congenital erythrocytic porphyria :- it is a congenital defect in uroporphyrinogen 3cosynthetase which attributes in synthesis of heme in erythrocytes . So, excessive amount of porphyrins which circulate in blood and finally settle down not only in dentin of teeth resulting in pinkish Color of teeth of cat but also in bones . This defect doesn't change the normal histological features of bone and teeth . Surprisingly , porphyrin pigment fluoresce under UV lights . reference : Pathologic basis of veterinary disease , forth edition . #pathology #feline #congenitaldefect #veterinaysciences
