I am not a gardener. Clearly. Can you find the little rosemary plant among the weeds in my first-ever pea patch garden row? No? I’d been weeding by hand, nurturing my little seeds and the new plants… but in one week, the weeds just TOOK OVER. The entire row, all the different crops, allll the areas. I had thought nurturing the plants (my favorite part) would help them overcome the weeds, and I could just casually pick out the weeds (not my favorite part) while I watered, and all would be well. All was not well. MAJOR remediation was needed. 3 days, 3 hours per day, of hoeing. Blisters through my gloves. And I’m still not sure my little plants are going to make it. I may have been too late. The weeds were THRIVING, choking out the beneficial plants, which in turn are weak and poorly rooted. I may have to restart. This is what can happen in company cultures. Maybe the bad actors are top performers. Maybe you think if you nurture the rest of the team, they’ll thrive despite. Maybe you think it will be contained to one dept, one area. Manageable. —> Nope. And rest assured it affects your future crops as well. Do candidates for positions contact previous and current employees to find out the scoop? Oh yes. They do. And more than *anything,* finding out your company culture is built to shelter poor behavior? Hard pass. Even in difficult jobsearch times. Finding out you do the hard things to care for your people? Gold. Weeding sucks, and it’s hard. It’s also necessary. #companyculture #jobsatisfaction

8 Crucial Mistakes to Avoid for a Successful Pumpkin Harvest 1. Wrong Planting Time Mistake: Planting too early or late. Fix: Plant when soil is 70°F (21°C), typically late spring to early summer. 2. Choosing the Wrong Variety Mistake: Picking an unsuitable type. Fix: Choose compact types like Jack Be Little for small spaces or Atlantic Giant for large gardens. 3. Poor Soil Mistake: Using low-quality soil. Fix: Use rich, well-draining soil with compost or aged manure. 4. Overcrowding Mistake: Planting too close together. Fix: Space vines 4–6 feet apart; bush varieties 2–3 feet. 5. Inconsistent Watering Mistake: Overwatering or letting soil dry out. Fix: Keep soil evenly moist and water at the base to prevent mildew. 6. Pollination Issues Mistake: Relying only on natural pollination. Fix: Hand-pollinate with a brush if bees are scarce. 7. Ignoring Pests and Diseases Mistake: Not checking for pests or diseases. Fix: Inspect regularly; use neem oil or insecticidal soap as needed. 8. Improper Harvesting Mistake: Picking too early or late. Fix: Harvest when skin is hard and resists scratching, leaving 2–4 inches of stem.

Nice patch of bare soil you’ve got there. It’d be a shame if something [pause for effect] grew in it… ?? LinkedIn green-fingered community, I need your help. We’ve just had the gas pipes in our street replaced and outside my house there’s a bare patch of soil, which will be reseeded with boring old grass at some point. But it doesn’t have to be that way… ?? Now, I’d never advocate sowing seeds on land you don’t own. Which is why I’m asking you this question: what native wildflowers do you think might mysteriously self-seed here and thrive? Here are some clues to help: ?? This patch gets cut a few times a year throughout the growing season (by the council, not by me!), so any plants’ll have to survive that ?? It’s in Yorkshire (that's not a white rose but it'll do) ???? It’s in quite a sunny, often windy spot (yes, we get sun in Yorkshire) ?? If it helps with the soil type, we mainly get fox-and-cubs, herb Robert (stinking Bob!) and dandelions growing nearby So, LinkedIn gardeners and growers, what are your recommendations? ?? Predictions. I mean predictions.

Life is like a Garden, and You are The Gardener By Boas Mwanaute continues..... 4. Eliminating the Weeds As the farmer works towards a good harvest, weeds will inevitably start to grow. Weeds aren't necessarily bad plants some are even edible. However, when you're growing tomatoes, an onion that sprouts nearby is considered a weed because it's an unwanted plant. If you don't eliminate it, it will compete for resources with the crops you're growing. In real life, as we pursue our purpose, goals, or dreams, there will be people who enter our lives in the form of friends or family who may distract us from our path because they don't understand our dreams or respect our principles. It's important to surround ourselves with people who understand and support our goals and dreams. It's not the number of people in your circle that determines your progress but how effective they are in helping you succeed. To Be Continued.......

Did you know that one out of every three bites of food we take are made possible by pollinators? You can lend a helping hand to our pollinator friends right in our own backyards. Efforts as simple as planting a window box with native plants make a difference. If you have a yard to work with—even a small patch—converting that grass to native flowers and plants is a great way to restore balance to your local ecosystem. https://nature.ly/4amD3OB

A week ago I finished planting 160 plant roots. Now comes the hard part…active waiting. True there are some fundraisers out there who don’t want to do the hard work of planting seeds. My advice—get rid of them quickly. But most will hustle to begin the cultivation process. The hardest part for me has been periods of active waiting. Watering is the most basic. I know the plants need water. But I won’t see if these ones have taken for 6-8 months!! But I keep watering. Weed prevention- we are laying layers of bark from dead trees all around the plants to prevent future weeds from growing. We will then mulch over that with bark mulch. Hard work…really hard work…still waiting. And here is the kicker. These plants will *hopefully* sprout in the spring. But they won’t reach full maturity for 3-5 years. I will get a few flowers this spring. Next spring a fee more. Each of these plants has the potential to produce 20-30 flowers per year. But that won’t happen until years 3-5. All that time. I’m cultivating. Watering. Weeding. Adding compost. Preventing disease. This is THE HARDEST part for most fundraisers. It’s where they get lost. They loose patience. They start *waiting* instead of *active waiting*. This is where as leaders finding metrics that matter is crucial. Metrics that measure the journey and not just the end result. Metrics that reward active waiting. Slow and steady growth. Metrics that will produce a healthy (and profitable) bed of flowers long into the future. If you want our full length guide on metrics that matter put *metrics* in the chat and I’ll send it over. Happy cultivating!

Taking care of a native plant garden during its first three years will help set it up for long-term success. Keep these things in mind: ???Water new plants a minimum of 1” each week. Watering larger amounts of water across longer intervals of time helps promote deeper root growth. ???Weed your garden regularly. If you’re unsure whether a plant is a weed, let it grow a little first and use a plant ID app. Try to pull weeds before they make flowers and seeds. ???In late summer and fall, let leaf litter and debris be. It’ll help enrich your soil, encourage beneficial fungi, and provide overwintering habitat for insects. 8 个月In company cultures, I've heard this phrased as "what you permit, you promote"...and it's so true. If you tolerate (or even worse REWARD) bad behavior, it'll spread. To have the culture you want, you have to weed out the bad behaviors (see what I did there ?? ), not just encourage the good ones. Good luck with your gardening!
