Should Lee Carsley and his England scouts cover non-league football instead of Category 3 academies? ?? ?? In March, there were more players selected for England U20 and U21 who spent time in the non-leagues / grassroots between the ages of 15-18 than players who were at Cat 3 academies during the same period. Players like Martial Godo (Margate) Alex Scott (Guernsey), Ronnie Edwards (Barnet), Sam Tickle (Pilkington), and Jaden Philogene (Pro-Direct Academy) developed outside the Cat 1-3 system but quickly established themselves as the best in the country within their age groups. The numbers don't lie: more players with non-league experience have earned call-ups to our national youth squads than all the scholars from Cat 3 academies combined... What's the takeaway? This isn't merely about a few overlooked players slipping through the net. It begs the question: Is there a systematic problem here, or, are the non-leagues a gold mine of emerging talent? #NLG
Interesting data coming out of the UK - our colleagues at the Girls' Schools Association are highlighting the impact girls-only schools' sport programs have on participation trends vs co-educational schools, and in games 'traditionally dominated by boys'. "Girls at GSA schools are 30% more likely to play football than their peers in co-educational settings." Since it's introduction to the IGSA Saturday Sport program in 2004, football participation has almost doubled in our Term 2 competition, with the 2,983 students playing in 2024. The 4,345 registrations across Terms 2 and 3 made football the most popular IGSA Sport in any given year in history. The incredible development and strength of our schools' football programs, combined with societal factors such as the recent success and popularity of the Matildas, are leading to students at our schools engaging with football like never before.
?? Our research shows that girls’ schools are leading the way in encouraging greater participation in sport and closing the gap in games traditionally dominated by boys. Did you know? Girls at GSA schools are nearly five times more likely to take up cricket and 30% more likely to play football than their peers in co-educational settings. ??? The evidence is clear: a supportive, girls-only environment helps to foster a love for all sports, with ample encouragement and opportunities to thrive. Later this week, we’re thrilled to be hosting our Girls Go Gold conference with Sherborne Girls. Over 400 athletes will join us for an inspiring day of sport, featuring expert coaching and workshops and talks from amazing speakers, including Clare Balding CBE and Sue Anstiss MBE. Improved SEO visibility with optimized content and sticky posts. Empowering Youth & Player Development: - Developed individual player profiles with photos and achievements. - Increased online presence & discoverability for players (U14 team). - Membership portal for parents to manage subscriptions and view orders. - Streamlined payment processing with Stripe, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. - Implemention of WooCommerce subscriptions for recurring billing and admin panels for those who signed up. - Players are now indexed on Google, with player profiles for senior and youth age groups, adding photos of their achievements and video link goals in matches, creating web pages of their own with in-depth statistics.
