??Tropical Forester | ??Forest and Landscapes Restoration | ??Project Management |??Carbon Estimation and Certification |??Wildlife and Protected Areas Management | Biodiversity and Climate | Research & Development??
?? I am proud to announce to you ?? that ?? I have just completed an online training program in Tropical Forest Landscapes: Conservation, Restoration & Sustainable Use ? at the Yale Environmental Leadership & Training Initiative (ELTI)/Yale School of the Environment (YSE). ELTI empowers global and local leaders to design and implement land use practices and initiatives that protect tropical forests and the livelihoods of local landowners and their communities. My cohort training took place from May 2023 to May 2024. It has been a pleasure to embark on this wonderful journey with my peers from 34 countries around the world ?? and the entire ELTI support team. This program consists of four main modules : 1. Fundamentals: Ecological and social concepts 2. People: Human dimensions and engagement 3. Strategies: Land use planning and implementation 4. Funding: Financial concepts and tools, A capstone (project course) is transversal and presents a suite of project tools and concepts to apply to real-world projects. I was able to participate in this training thanks to the full financial support of the Three Cairns Group Scholarship under its Three Cairns Climate Program for the global South. I participated in this training as a Three Cairns Fellow and I am sincerely grateful to Three Cairns Group. I also extend my thanks to ICT4U-ONG for the internal collaboration that enabled me to complete this training successfully. The training culminated in the drafting and successful defense of a restoration project, which earned me the certificate below. Without a doubt, the skills acquired, the connections and the network made in this framework will be invaluable for my career development and will significantly enhance my work in environmental conservation and restoration. #Sustainability #ClimateChange #Biodiversity #Conservation #RenewableEnergy #EcosystemRestoration #GreenEnergy #EnvironmentalScience #NatureConservation #ForestConservation #TropicalForests #Restoration #SustainableUse #ELTI #YSE #ThreeCairnsGroup #ICT4UONG #ForestRestoration #CommunityEmpowerment #Sustainability #ClimateAction

Life after College of Charleston ?? I have been working for the Director of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP) Northwest District Office since 2021. The Northwest District is responsible for environmental permitting, compliance, emergency response, and environmental education for FDEP’s regulatory programs within the 16 counties of the Florida Panhandle. In my current role, I manage a budget of 8.8 million dollars and oversee staff of 110 people in Pensacola, Panama City, and Tallahassee. I took an entry level position with FDEP in 2007 after graduating from the College's Environmental Studies Masters Program and took on a leadership role with the Department in 2013. Leading a multidisciplinary team of environmental and administrative professionals and engaging with Florida’s environmental stakeholders have given me a unique perspective on the issues that impact our environment and our community. 1. Was there a professor or organization at College of Charleston that specifically impacted your college experience? Alan Strand (Bio) and Maureen Hayes (Anthro) were my mentors for many years. Thanks to their support, I was able to take advantage of many of the great programs that the College of Charleston offers, including an archaeology field school in Portugal and an internship with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Both of these opportunities helped me gain valuable professional and interpersonal skills and set me up for success in my career. 2. Provide a piece of advice for all Cougars as they graduate and head into the workforce. I'll share something that was shared with me when I got my first leadership role: Question to a void. Ask questions until there aren't any more questions to ask. Stay curious about topics, processes and requirements that are new to you, and about items that you're already familiar with--there's always something new to learn.

How do you see the #skill of #systemthinking or making connections? The article captures the demonstration of skill perfectly. Systems thinking is a way of making sense of the complexity of the world by looking at it in terms of wholes and relationships rather than by splitting it down into its parts. Callum, a student at Ynysddu Primary School, Wales enthusiastically shared his school's air quality monitoring project, saying: "We do this by looking at the types of lichen growing on different surfaces. For example, areas with more nitrogen-loving lichen, like the kind we found near the rugby club car park, show poorer air quality from car fumes. That's why we're encouraging people to turn their engines off completely when parked – it can make a real difference!" The above is also a great example of how we can take action using biodiversity as an indicator of a health ecosystem. I feel so proud of the impact we are creating at Foundation for Environmental Education. In the last 30 years, Eco-Schools has become the world's largest environmental education programme. It currently engages 19.5 million students from 97 countries. https://lnkd.in/dB2QYbJJ #GreeningEducation #GenerationRestoration #ESD Foundation for Environmental Education UNESCO UNICEF Lee Wray-Davies Olivia Copsey Reeza Hanselmann Owen Derbyshire Lan Yu Tan

The educational process at FEE is solution based. We see the impact through students who master complex #problemsolving skills like #systemthinking. We invite #stakeholders to increase the outreach of our work around the world and see for them selves, how our programmes can impact #QualityEducation. #GreeningEducation #GenerationRestoration
