While I acknowledge the temporary nature of Operation Early Dawn and the need to address prison overcrowding, there’s bigger fish to fry. The delays caused by this measure will have significant repercussions for victims, witnesses, and defendants, who have already endured prolonged waiting times to get their cases into court. I think it’s unacceptable that some cases are deprioritised while others receive expedited treatment due to their headline-grabbing nature. I've seen first-hand how the criminal justice system has been grappling with chronic underfunding and backlogs for years, and this crisis is not limited to rioting cases. Every case, victim, and defendant deserve timely resolution, regardless of its severity or media attention. We need the government to provide sustained support to all aspects of the justice system, including the courts, which are facing severe infrastructure deficiencies. We need a holistic approach, where the purpose of sentences, prison capacity, funding, training, and the entire criminal justice chain are carefully considered. ‘Speedy justice’ should be for all, not just those involved in civil unrest. The public deserves a well-funded and efficient system that ensures justice for all and promotes public safety, the redirection of offenders, and the well-being of everyone concerned.

There is a lack of transparent data, which is rendering victims of stalking invisible on their journey to justice.
