This week, GES had the privilege of attending two great luncheons highlighting the important work going on in our community. ? At the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) monthly luncheon, the City of Las Vegas presented exciting updates on downtown developments. The presentation highlighted the city's ongoing efforts to revitalize and modernize the heart of Las Vegas, focusing on infrastructure improvements, sustainable initiatives, and innovative projects aimed at enhancing the urban experience. ? At the American Public Works Association monthly luncheon, Darren Schulz from the APWA National Board provided updates on the happenings of APWA National. He demonstrated the importance of individuals in public works advocating at the federal level to impact funding for local projects. ? As a company deeply committed to building strong communities, we were thrilled to gain insight into the vision for the future and explore how these developments will shape the region. Networking with fellow professionals and staying informed about local advancements allows us to better serve our clients and contribute to the growth of Southern Nevada. ? #EngineeringExcellence #DowntownLasVegas #CommunityGrowth #GES

As KEG continues to expand our services in Kentucky, we are proud to be a part of impactful projects in the state. The US 31E/Bardstown Road Planning Study has been a significant undertaking of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 5 to improve a heavily-traveled corridor in the greater Louisville area. Partnering with HMB Professional Engineers, Inc., the KEG team provided transportation engineering services in support of creating a prioritized improvement plan to US 31E from the Bullitt County Line to KY 1065. KEG developed improvement concepts for bike and pedestrian connectivity and parallel route connectivity. This included getting pedestrians through the I-265 partial clover leaf interchange with US 31E. A few weeks ago, KYTC hosted a public meeting to inform residents about the planning study and gather their input. During the event, our exhibits were showcased to help stakeholders visualize and understand the proposed improvements. #KEGatwork

?? How does staff capacity in state departments of transportation influence the costs of maintaining infrastructure? Cailin Slattery, Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, is investigating this question with the support of O-Lab's new initiative on Transportation & Infrastructure Development. We sat down with Cailin to discuss her project, which draws evidence from road resurfacing projects, in a recent Q&A. Fortunate to be invited by my friend and colleague Justin Golbabai to address the American Planning Association Texas chapter conference this week, “Planning & Community Engagement for Memory: How Communities Decide What, Where, When, and How to Display Its History.” #apatx #planning Typically, the planning practice focuses on creating new developments to modernize a community and facilitate its growth. That said, in recent years, many cities have been thrust into the consideration of both new memorials to tragic events, such as mass shootings, and existing memorials, such as those that pay tribute to figures whose history with race proves to be divisive in the modern era. Using real-life scenarios, participants in this session will work together to consider how they might approach these memorial-based questions as planners, such as, - What do we need to learn? - Whom do we need to engage? - How should the engagement look? This session will also tackle critical questions related to how to ensure that all voices in a community have a chance to be heard, both in terms of what is memorialized and in terms of how https://lnkd.in/dnjMvg8K

Our resident planning expert and CWPA MD, Joe Corr, recently joined Newstalk presenter Sean Moncrieff to discuss various planning topics. They covered the process of lodging planning applications, the importance of basing observations on planning criteria rather than personal objections, and the timing and duration of the application process. Joe also shared insights on strategic infrastructure developments, the appeals process, and judicial reviews. #Planning #Architecture #PlanningProcess #DevelopmentPlans #StrategicInfrastructure You can listen back here:
