Students at Old Dominion University's Batten College of Engineering & Technology are hard at work developing "Honor Haul," a project our teamed ideated that aims to produce an adjustable wheelchair rack for an injured veteran's handcycle — making it easier for them to travel with it. As the newest, aspiring engineers of the Class of 2028 begin their next chapter this Fall, I wanted to give my network the chance to reflect back on that moment in life whether that time had been 4 years, 8 years, or 20 years ago! Today, I had the privilege of attending an insightful speech by Kavitha Anbarasu ?? on the topic ???????? ???????????? ???? ??????????????: ???????????????? ???????????? ?????? ??????????????. The session was filled with valuable advice, especially on how to overcome self-doubt and thrive in this exciting new chapter of life. ???? ?? She emphasized the importance of developing key skills such as adaptability, communication, and continuous learning. She also highlighted how crucial it is to build confidence and take on challenges head-on, reminding us that every hurdle is an opportunity for growth. ???? ? Her advice on managing self-doubt was particularly impactful: “Embrace the uncertainty, trust your journey, and believe in your ability to succeed.” ???? Today our Field Tech Jose Ibarra and I had the pleasure to teach and train a group of 39 students from Perry Technical Institute Trade School in Yakima, WA. As part of their curriculum they build a house from start to finish. This home will feature two of Louisiana-Pacific Corporation product segments. Under the new 2021 Code adoption in WA State they started framing today using our NovaCore structural sheathing. This is a joint venture product featuring LP OSB with Owens Corning Insulation R5 rigid XPS combined into one panel. This a great solution for the continuous insulation requirement that installs like normal sheathing. I spent some time with students educating them on building science and code then Jose provided safe hands on application training framing walls. The students rocked! There was so much curiosity to learn and they are a motivated group to find their place in the industry. We have more to come with the students as we will back in a couple months to train them on our ExpertFinish prefinished siding. Looking forward to seeing the students again and their home build!
