I had heard about "Growth Mindset" vs. "Fixed Mindset" for quite a while, but I realized my understanding of these terms was absolutely incomplete if not totally wrong! (I just recently read the book and revisited the summary Joseph Donovan shared with our team earlier) I had thought one of them was being open to new ideas, creative...while the other was "been there, done that", keep the status quo... Not true, at least not complete! We can easily list the implications of having one or the other mindset as dominant one, (i.e. embracing or avoiding challenges, open to feedback vs. ignoring feedback…) however, understanding the underlying principle difference between two is much more important, to me. Fixed Mindset believes "intelligence is static", and leads to a desire to look smart, successful, approved. Quite a few of us try not to look unsuccessful at work rather than taking risk, moving out of our comfort zone, which also has a lot to do with what organizations reward at work. Growth Mindset believes "intelligence can be developed", and leads to a desire to learn. There are no failures, but learning, provided that we learn from them! I highly recommend the book, also mentions many fascinating stories... #learn #books #growthmindset

Correct! This is one of my absolute favorite book also. Like you I thought I ‘got’ it without actually reading it. This book is so transformational in the way it decodes our ideology that it warrants its own read for sure

A fantastic read suggested to me by Dr. Soo-Yeun Lee while I was a graduate student in her lab. Dr. Lee is someone I truly look up to because she lives and breathes the growth mindset. I’m glad I could bring this informative read to our team, Kaan Demiryurek, and inspire us to think differently!

Thank you for sharing. I often find the inherent traits of a Growth Mindset are there in people, but risk aversion squashes their courage. Like you say this can be due to experiences of what their organisation rewards or past perceived failures. We must take courage and not be scared of trying quickly, failing, learning and moving forward.
