Why did I get into local government communications? (and a shameless plug for a job opportunity in our team) ? If I can shock you, it wasn't for the glamour, the power or the love of redirecting people's pothole complaints to the County Council... But it was because: ?? Everyday is different. Genuinely. You can go from housing to health, from developments to dog wardens and from the economy to events and elections, all in the space of one afternoon. ?? It's a real challenge. The output isn't all milk and honey. There'll be difficult news to share, tough situations to manage and media enquiries to respond to. It can be hard but that's also where the greatest satisfaction and feelings of accomplishment lies. ?? You have to think outside the box. Have you ever tried to make signing up for online council tax billing, licensing regulations or planning policy thrilling and engaging to residents? It's fair to say you need to get creative! ?? It makes a difference. We're not selling products or shouting into the empty void of mass-marketing. Our campaigns can influence residents and have helped people find the vital support they and their families need, increased recycling rates and shown new or existing businesses how to access support to grow and develop. ?? Also, I've heard the team's alright as well... ??♂? Any of that sound appealing? We're currently looking for someone considering joining local government comms to become our new Communications Officer, working across South and East Lincolnshire to inform, involve and inspire our communities and colleagues. Please share with anyone you think might be interested, and encourage them to get their application in. We'd love to hear from them ?? More info ?? https://bit.ly/3ATsMxo P.S I think you're contractually obliged when talking about local government jobs to mention the pensions. 23.8% contribution, phwoar ?? Career Aviators: Ask a Career Management Consultant Phil Tsekouras, a CTVNewsToronto.ca Journalist, has a great post on the CP24 Toronto's Breaking News site. The article clearly describes many of the difficulties faced by my clients Ontario-wide. The difficulties are exacerbated by a competitive job market and high unemployment rates. His post describes stories of individuals struggling to find suitable employment despite advanced degrees and relevant experience. Experts advise job seekers to differentiate themselves through tailored applications and to balance customization with efficiency in their job search efforts. I would like to add that applying cold online is about as effective in job search as buying a lottery ticket and expecting to win. Tsekouras quotes Michael French from Robert Half Executive Search. as saying, “Think of a job posting that is really well written, it's a job that people do find attractive: [You’re thinking] ‘I want that job.’ Well, so does your neighbour, your brother, your family, they all want it too, so they're applying for it. But, unfortunately, only one person gets that job.” French is right. If a job seeker focuses on ads, they can see themselves in many different jobs. Successful job seekers start their search by identifying roles that align with the combination of what matters to them and the top skills that they want to use all the time. Then they talk to several people who are doing that role to be sure it’s a great fit or to rule it out. Once they determine their target role, they keep sharing their interests and knowledge of this kind of work with dozens more people doing this kind of job. They engage them in their search by asking them to look out for roles before they are posted. These contacts can also be incredibly helpful if the job seeker sees a posting and their contact is willing to send their resume to the hiring manager as a candidate possibly worthy of an interview. When searches are done in this way and with coaching from a career professional, job seekers should plan on a month of full-time searching for every $10,000 in salary they want to earn. Career transitions take more career resilience than any other job a professional will take on in their career! #JobSearchTips #CareerAdvice #JobMarket #CareerTransition #EmploymentChallenges

Did you know that the UK’s care sector has more than 100,000 unfilled roles? That’s way more than most other industries! ?? The demand for care jobs is far higher than the number of job seekers. So it's crucial to keep candidates engaged and start the hiring process early. This means response time is incredibly important for jobs in care. When a candidate applies, the hiring manager needs to get back to them as soon as possible. Quick responses can make a big difference in filling these vital positions! ?? By responding quickly, you show candidates that you value their interest and dedication. This helps to build a positive impression of your organisation. Plus, starting the hiring process sooner means you can secure top talent before they find opportunities elsewhere in such a competitive field! ?? Dear Friends After having 32 years of experience in health care industry I think getting a suitable position is a nightmare. During the initial years of my career the superiors always have been mentors and they had taken special care in budding us for the future and people of my days never had bitter experiences in our career. Each day was special and we had lots to learn and our mentors even having busy schedule spend time to teach us. Now things have changed, we used to go to HR only for providing with our testimonies and for related matters. Now decision on providing employment lies on the HR though they know little on Health care business , the market, the Possibility of business growth etc. even if refered by a CEO, Medical superintendent or a Medical Director for a position, it's merely the desicion of HR to provide the employment. This has to change , if people like me has to get an opportunity to work in health care industry. not blaming anyone. people talk about experience to fill up position. but how many people know that people like me having proven career record are some times denied opportunity. it's time to think if experience counts or it's a myth to have experience.
