???????????????????????????????? Three Elements of Standardized Work Standardized work includes a consideration of these three elements: ?Takt time ?Work sequence ?(WIP)Work In-process inventory Each are explained below. Takt Time Takt time is the rate at which you have to complete products to meet customer demand. To determine takt time, simply take your available production time and divide that by the number of units your customers demand. In creating and documenting standardize work, you’ll want to balance takt time with cycle time. Work Sequence Document the steps of the job task. This is often done using something called a standard work chart. In-Process Inventory Document expectations for your work-in-progress inventory. Remember that in lean, the goal is to reduce your inventory, as inventory is considered a form of waste.

Service parts inventory is at the heart of every successful aftermarket parts and service operation and if your business is carrying too much excess and obsolete service parts inventory, then this is not the kind of problem that happens overnight. So if you’re struggling to understand what is causing your inventory problems and/or struggling to reduce excess and obsolete inventory fast enough, the chances are that it is caused by a combination of factors and symptoms. There are many more causes of excess and obsolete inventory in an aftermarket service parts operation than you will find in a manufacturing operation, so we can’t promise to list them all here. In this article, I’ll just explore the top 12, but at the end of the article I explain how you can access more information if you need it. Firstly, let’s explore the demand side of the equation… 1. Poor Demand Forecasting 2. Slow Moving Parts 3. Same Stocking Policy For Everything 4. Poor Stocking Range Management 5. Bad Campaign Management 6. Bad Supplier Schedule Adherence 7. Sloppy Purchasing 8. Minimum Order Quantities 9. Expediting But Not De-expediting 10. Inaccurate Lead Times 11. Too Many Engineering Changes 12. Weak Supersession Management #supplychainmanagement

Maintenance Cost Saving Strategies: 1. Control Failure Mechanisms : Identify and address the root causes of equipment/ Component failures through predictive maintenance and reliability-centered methods, prolonging spare part life. 2. Manage Spare Demand: Accurately forecast demand, centralize inventory control, and prioritize critical parts to prevent overstocking or understocking. 3. Inventory Cost Optimization : Apply ABC analysis, EOQ, JIT inventory, and collaborate with suppliers to minimize inventory costs while ensuring spare part availability. #costcontrol #reliabiitymanagement #maintenancemanagement #inventorycontrol #maintenancemanagement

Great visualization of inefficiency in batch vs 1 piece flow.
Manufacturers cling to old batch habits. ? That's why their processes are often plagued by inefficiency. ? Switching to Continuous Flow can bring relief.? ? Here's a brief overview of both methods: ? 1/ Batch Processing ? Identical or similar items are produced in batches, before moving on to the next step. ? Main drawbacks: ? -Piles of WIP inventory waiting for the next step -Defects hide among the batches -Inefficient space management -Uneven workflows -Long lead times ? Those lead to: ? -Facility costs up -Higher carrying costs -More scrap and rework -Low responsiveness to customer demand -Some stations being overloaded, others waiting ? *** 2/ Continuous Flow ? Move one workpiece at a time between operations within a work cell. ? Uninterrupted in time, sequence, substance or extent. ? Changeovers become quick and routine. ? Main advantages: ? +High customer responsiveness +Minimal work-in-process inventory +Quality issues are detected immediately +Reduced wasted space and material handling +Easy to level load production to match takt time ? The choice between these methods depends on factors like ? -product variety -demand patterns -production capabilities *** Join 60,000+ leaders receiving Continuous Improvement tips via email & social https://lnkd.in/ddQncJM5

You're not alone if you’re struggling with spare parts inventory. Supply leaders everywhere are dealing with the same headache. Teams aren’t collaborating enough to figure out which parts are really critical, leading to piles of stale inventory. By the time you notice what’s happening, it’s too late to salvage the value of those aging, unused parts. Sure, overinvesting in spare parts seems like the easy route. But a smarter way would be to categorize your spare parts based on how critical they are to your business. This heavy lifting, combined with setting the right service levels, is what will really optimize your inventory and deliver value. #casestudysupplychain #supplychainintelligence #throughputai

Just read a great article on the importance of considering long-term cost reductions over short-term savings. As Henry Ford once said, "the short success that can be gained in a brief time and without difficulty is not worth much." It's easy to focus solely on quick savings through bids, but by taking into account the entire program, its efficiency, and the opportunity for continuous improvement over the long run, we can find significant cost reductions. This is a valuable lesson for all pallet purchasers for large companies. Henry Ford, a renowned visionary in manufacturing, understood this concept well. If you want to talk national pallet programs, let me know! Pallets are more valuable to manufacturing than you think. Let The Pallet Alliance prove it to you. #procurement #costreduction #woodnerds #longtermsavings #manufacturing #pallets
