?? The transition from policing to tech sales has been a whirlwind of learning and growth. But one thing I’ve realized? The skills you develop in one career can be precious in another. The key is to embrace change and commit to lifelong learning. Here’s how: ?? Cultivate Curiosity: The tech world is a dynamic landscape! Just as in policing, where staying abreast of laws and procedures is paramount, fostering a spirit of curiosity and continuously delving into new technologies, sales strategies, and customer needs is indispensable in tech sales. ?? Embrace Adaptability: Whether it’s a sudden shift in a customer’s needs or a new product feature, adaptability is the key. On the force, situations can metamorphose in an instant, and the ability to adapt swiftly is equally vital in sales. ?? Data-Driven Decisions:?Decisions in law enforcement often rely on evidence and data. In tech sales, using data to understand customer behavior and tailor your approach is a game-changer. Change can be intimidating, but it is also an opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive in new environments. ?? Keep pushing yourself to learn, and you’ll be amazed at how your past experiences can help you succeed in your new role. I have realized that if I am not involved in some sort of change, I am lost! Accept it and embrace it always! Do you love or hate change? Don't be shy, let’s hear it! ???? #LifelongLearning #Adaptability #TechSales #EmbraceChange #CareerGrowth #CuriosityInAction

For many years, I had the privilege of working in tech sales, a dynamic environment that taught me the value of relationship-building, strategy, and perseverance. Tech sales is an industry driven by innovation and problem-solving, and I gained invaluable skills that shaped my career. I found myself craving a deep connection to the impact of my work. That’s what led me to transition into Business of Child Care, where every action we take directly supports families, communities, and economic resilience by addressing the critical child care crisis. Here’s what I’ve discovered on this new path: 1. Purpose and Passion Align: Aligning my day-to-day work with a mission as meaningful as improving child care access has unlocked a level of passion and drive. It’s a reminder that our work can be a force for good, solving real societal issues. 2. Transferable Skills Create Impact: My background in sales provided me with valuable tools—building relationships, listening to client needs, and crafting strategic solutions. These skills are just as essential in the mission-driven space, where collaboration and problem-solving have a direct impact on the lives of families and communities. 3. Fulfilling a Greater Purpose: In both tech and mission-driven roles, the goal is to find solutions. Now, those solutions contribute to something larger than myself, helping parents access the child care they need to thrive both at work and at home. Transitioning to a mission-driven role at Business of Child Care has been a rewarding journey. It’s proof that we can leverage our professional skills to create change that matters—no matter where we start. If you’re considering a move into a purpose-driven career, I encourage you to take the leap. There’s no greater feeling than knowing your work is making a positive, lasting difference. #alwaysbelearning #makinganimpact #excitingjourney

?? Transitioning from Sales to Tech: My Journey and the Challenges I Faced ?? As a seasoned sales professional, I’ve spent years honing my skills in understanding customer needs, building relationships, and closing deals. However, when I decided to leap into the tech world, I quickly realized that the landscape was vastly different. Here are some challenges I faced along the way that I believe many others can relate to: Imposter Syndrome: Stepping into a tech role filled with technical jargon and complex concepts was daunting. I often found myself questioning if I truly belonged. But I’ve learned that it’s okay to be a beginner. Embracing that discomfort has been a catalyst for growth. Learning Curve: The tech industry is constantly evolving. I had to dive headfirst into new tools, languages, and platforms. While it was overwhelming at times, I made it a point to dedicate time each day to upskill. Online courses, webinars, and even mentorship played a crucial role in my transition. Shifting Mindsets: In sales, I was focused on immediate outcomes. In tech, the emphasis is often on long-term solutions and iterative processes. Learning to think in sprints rather than just “closing the deal” has transformed my approach and opened new avenues for collaboration with my tech-savvy colleagues. Building a New Network: Moving from a primarily sales-focused environment to tech meant cultivating relationships with a new group of professionals. Networking became essential, and I tried to attend industry events, seminars, and online forums to connect with others who shared similar interests. Balancing Fear with Curiosity: Change is intimidating, especially in a field known for rapid advancements. I had to choose curiosity over fear consciously. Asking questions and seeking support when I didn’t understand something became my survival toolkit. Despite these challenges, I’m grateful for the journey. Transitioning into tech has not only expanded my skill set but has also given me a fresh perspective on how technology can drive sales strategies. If you’re considering a similar transition, remember that it’s a journey filled with learning and growth. Embrace the challenges, seek support, and don’t hesitate to share your experiences—because we’re all in this together! ?? #CareerTransition #SalesToTech #GrowthMindset #TechIndustry #LearningJourney

Why isn’t there a push to get more young people into Tech Sales? ?? A career as a doctor, lawyer, or engineer is always promoted as being a lucrative career path for young people but never sales! However, Tech Sales can be just as rewarding (if not more), yet it’s rarely promoted... Why is that? Here are a few reasons I believe: ? Lack of Awareness Sales careers aren’t pushed by the school system. Schools focus more on academic paths, and students often aren’t aware of how lucrative sales can be. ? Cultural Perception Medicine and law have been seen as prestigious for centuries. Sales, on the other hand, is often misunderstood or seen as short-term. ? Tech Career Focus When tech careers are discussed, it’s usually about coding or engineering. Sales roles, which drive company growth, are often overlooked. It seems crazy to me as Tech sales is one of the fastest-growing and best paid industries in the UK!! Personally it's something I wish I'd known about when I was younger as its a career path I definitely would have looked to pursue! What do you think? In the city hustle, where opportunities are a bit like a game of hide-and-seek, I've become a persistent player, navigating obstacles with the determination of someone who's been around the block. Growing up in a neighborhood where dreams seemed distant, I got good at finding different routes. Now, I've got my eyes on the Sales Development Representative (SDR) role, ready to connect the dots like a seasoned navigator mapping uncharted waters. Networking is my thing, like catching the rhythm of an unexplored river. Challenges? I've seen my fair share, treating them like puzzles to solve and turning road bumps into stepping stones. Picture it like a journey where I paint with the colors of creativity and resilience, transforming hurdles into strokes of success in the tech sales realm. #sdr?#openforwork

Is it possible that a detour in your career path could be one of your greatest learning experiences? Let me share a chapter from my own story. I was hired into a tech company 6 months before I graduated college. Then 2 weeks before I graduated, I was told they were going under. It was the .com crash in 2001 and like many others in tech, I was jobless out of college. I found myself pivoting unexpectedly. I landed in sales, a field far from my comfort zone. I spent four years there, and looking back, it was a period that taught me invaluable lessons about work ethic. In sales, every day was a new challenge. Sales was dynamic and often unpredictable. It demanded resilience and adaptability, skills that are now cornerstones of my approach in tech leadership. Here’s what those years in sales ingrained in me: ?? ?????????????????????? ???? ??????: In sales, the answer was often 'no'. But it was persistence, the willingness to keep going, that eventually turned nos into yeses. This tenacity is something I carried back into tech, especially when facing tough project hurdles. ?? ?????????????????? ????????????: Sales taught me the art of truly listening to clients - understanding their needs, fears, and aspirations. This skill translated seamlessly into tech, where listening to team members and stakeholders is crucial for successful collaboration and product development. ?? ?????????? ???? ??????????????????????????: Building genuine relationships was at the heart of successful sales. It’s no different in tech. Fostering strong relationships with peers, team members, and stakeholders can make or break a project. ?? ?????????????????????? ?????? ????????????????????????: The fast-paced nature of sales meant strategies had to be constantly tweaked. This ability to adapt and pivot has been incredibly useful in the ever-evolving tech landscape. ?? ?????? ?????? ???? ?????????????? ???? ????????: Whether it's pitching a product in sales or a new project idea in tech, the principles are the same. It’s about articulating value clearly and compellingly. This unexpected detour in my career was more than just a stopgap. It was a period of profound professional growth, shaping my work ethic and approach in my current role. Have you had a similar experience, where an unexpected career turn taught you valuable lessons? I’d love to hear your stories. #CareerJourney #WorkEthic #LifeLessons ??????
