Temu overtook eBay to become the 2nd most visited e-commerce website in the world. Keep in mind that Temu's sales mostly happen on the app, not the website. It's wild that Temu is getting nearly 700 million monthly visits. It's even wilder that AliExpress+Temu+Shein are now 50% of Amazon.com traffic. (Data: SimilarWeb)

Isn’t this concerning? Where does it end? Chinese platforms, backed by state capital, are competing with EU companies that are required to pay tariffs, taxes, and adhere to strict regulations, without receiving equivalent support from the EU. What’s more alarming is that these platforms are operating at significant losses, aggressively advertising and engaging in price dumping. How long can this continue before authorities intervene to address this imbalance?

Not surprising. eBay sucks now. It's SOOOO seller unfriendly. The UI/UX is worse than when I worked there and it was crap then. It's what happens when you let your "offshore" teams (which are composed of some of the laziest, most worthless "developers" on the face of the planet) have control. The primary "job" of developers and product people at eBay is to keep their H1B jobs while doing the absolute least amount of actual work.

It’s quite impressive but looking at the current regulatory and legal movements against Temu, I’m shifting firmly into bear territory now. The party’s over. They will need to dramatically reshape their approach to western markets in the coming months.

Great insight! Temu’s rise is striking. It would be interesting to see the traffic gap between the top site and Temu. Juozas Kaziuk?nas, Similarweb — do you have data on this? Despite the shift, I believe, Amazon’s dominance remains substantial.

Very informative Juozas Kaziuk?nas. The rapid rise of Temu to become the 2nd most visited e-commerce site, overtaking eBay, is both a testament to the platform's innovative strategy and a reflection of broader market shifts. With nearly 700 million monthly visits, largely driven by its mobile app, Temu—alongside AliExpress and Shein—now commands 50% of Amazon.com’s traffic. This dramatic shift underscores the growing influence of cross-border e-commerce platforms that are reshaping the global retail landscape. However, this growth raises important questions about the sustainability of such models, particularly as these platforms operate at significant losses, engage in aggressive price competition, and benefit from different regulatory frameworks compared to their Western counterparts. The imbalance highlighted in some of the comments reflects legitimate concerns about the long-term impact on local markets and the competitive landscape. The conversation around Temu’s growth is far from over, and it’s clear that the e-commerce landscape will continue to be defined by innovation, competition, and regulatory considerations. How this balance is managed will shape the future of global commerce.

I always hear an attitude in Retail as well as in Automotive, like yes Chinese companies XYZ doing the great job, but we will ensure that it wouldn't happen for long not because there is a European Company XY who will complete but because we will impose new regulations etc. Don't you think that is a weak position? If you check the list, there are 0 European companies and that is a call to action So instead of saying that would be a new regulations, we have to focus on fundamentals, like why Chinese companies are more innovative these days vs others and what we can do differently in Europe.

I’ve been making more purchases on Temu than ever before not necessarily because it’s cheaper but to really understand they’re logistics and infrastructure and they are really gonna change everything. Specially on commodities like paper towel. For instance, I might not care if it takes two weeks if I could save money. I saw this one Amazon podcast the other day where the host said. He never made a purchase on Temu. That’s simply insane.

yep investors are spending a lot of money !!! they did exact same thing and strategy back to 2016 here in China , i forgot the timeline , but Temu doing exactly what they did before , at the same time world economy is not good , so people are spending less on amazon , if you can buy this same product or similar product just for 10 dollar , why would you spend 15 dollar on amazon , so Temu is doing good so far !!!!!!!

It shows that Amazon can be defeated (maybe). But as others have pointed out, there is a lot of legal things happening towards Temu and Shein.
