NBIC's Sips & Strategies: Empowering Entrepreneurs through Financial Literacy Earlier this month, NBIC hosted a successful Sips & Strategies event, kicking off with a powerful presentation on protecting your assets by Shanna Johnson of Truist. This valuable session equipped entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools to safeguard their financial well-being. Lechelle Moore, CFP? and @Chris Moore also delivered an insightful talk on "Writing a Love Letter to Your Family," emphasizing the importance of financial planning for future generations. This resonated deeply with our mission at NBIC, as we strive to empower entrepreneurs to build wealth and ensure its legacy. February is Black History Month, and at NBIC, we celebrate by making history every day. We are dedicated to scaling companies owned by minorities and closing the wealth gap. A new Black-owned financial institution could emerge west of Texas! The investment group Redemption Holding Co. (RHC), led by former White House Policy Advisor Ashley D. Bell, wants to acquire Holladay Bank & Trust in Holladay, UT, per an outlet. If approved, the Utah financial institution will be renamed Redemption Bank and become the only Minority Depository Institution west of Texas. "All of us require a bank to operate, and the reality was there was no Black-owned bank that we could sit on top of to operate with the way we're currently constructed," Bell told The Sacramento Observer. Alongside Bell will be Dr. Bernice A. King, the youngest child of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Per The Wall Street Journal, she will join the bank's advisory board and serve as the senior vice president for impact banking. And with a flight home from Helena, Montana, that marks the end of our Spring conference season. Our schedule wasn’t light, including stops to Orlando, Minnesota, Columbus, Nashville, Sioux Falls, Maine, and Montana. Over the course of four speaking slots and hundreds of conversations, we relentlessly answered one core question: how can credit unions and community financial institutions win the next generation of members? While many credit unions and community FI’s stop after winning a young person’s mindshare, that’s simply not enough. On the back of that earned trust, our generation needs to be handheld to the next best product in your ecosystem. Credit unions who can do this, both with a personalized and digital touch, will reap the benefits of engaged, multi-product members. I did re-familiarize with the importance of being ready in the moment. When our CEO had to head home due to a family emergency hours before our keynote presentation, I thoroughly enjoyed getting on the big stage and speaking to an audience of over 150 executives from across the country. Needless to say, none of this would have been possible without our League partners. Businesses, not unlike people, are constantly evolving. For small business owners, not only is this true but perhaps magnified. Independent financial advisors also fall into this category. How does an advisor who loves what he or she does stay ahead of all the macro issues affecting the industry and still stay vigilant and honor his or her firm's unique value proposition? How does an advisor think about (and plan for) the longer-term horizon for that firm? Some might see a quandry. Marc Freedman CFP? at Freedman Financial saw an opportunity. Long-associated with LPL Financial, Marc saw a way to enhance his clients' experience while also freeing himself up to do other things important to both him and his family...and to provide an enhanced client experience with LPL.
