The most talented, ethical, brilliant, dedicated employees are sometimes also on the market, job seeking, or have a short-stint or gap in resume because: (pick one or any) ? They were a primary caregiver and needed to focus on a loved one (yes, people put loved ones first on occasion, who’d have thunk!?) ? They took time off to pursue a certification, education, volunteer, travel, or for a health reason (mind your own business!) ? They left a toxic/hostile work environment and bravely chose wellness, dignity, and ethics over complacency (would you want to hire someone without a moral compass?) ? They we’re laid off or suffered a lapse in employment due to poor planning, poor management, or company closure (not their fault!) ? They are changing industries, careers, coming out of retirement, new path/goals (isn’t growth and change a good thing?!) ??Stop judging, making assumptions, narrating your own perception to other people’s circumstances, vision, story and look beyond dates, times, titles. Stop hiring a resume and hire the whole human! Look at accomplishments and skill. The best employees come from all kinds of backgrounds, experiences, tenures, circumstances, and chapters in life. Public speaking has been at the core of my journey, long before I even thought of organizing my first TEDx event. At 16, I was an introverted, scared kid who barely spoke a word. I was terrified of public speaking—actually, I was terrified of speaking in general. But one teacher saw something in me and pushed me onto a stage, in front of 20 classmates. I trembled, I faltered, and I even fainted—but she didn’t give up on me. She pushed me until something in me shifted. The moment I overcame that fear, I realized that speaking isn’t just about being on stage—it’s about communication. And communication is the foundation of everything: our relationships, our careers, and how we see the world. Public speaking taught me resilience, and that resilience helped me navigate every other challenge in life—from personal struggles to building a career. It gave me the courage to embrace my path, to speak up, and to be unafraid of failure. That’s why I’m so passionate about TEDx Southlake— for me, it’s not just an event, it’s a platform for young people to discover the same strength I did.
