In 2023, more than 900,000 accidents at work occurred in Switzerland. Decentralization abroad poses problems with regard to supply chain control, such as intellectual property theft, loss of flexibility or disruption of the transport chain in the event of a pandemic. ?? Solutions Intelligent automation and continuous innovation make it possible to make Swiss industrial locations more competitive. Computer vision and autonomous mobile robotics technologies are particularly important for preventing accidents, improving quality and reducing costs. For an organization like ours that places high value on innovation and R&D, we are always happy when our researchers are recognized for their ideas. One recent award-winner is Takuya Mitarai of the Transmission Devices Laboratory, who received the SSDM Young Researcher Award at the International Conference on Solid State Devices & Materials in September for his work on reducing power consumption in infocommunications technology. Citing a surge in the amount of electricity needed to support growing data center traffic and AI usage, Mitarai-san said "I am committed to advancing research to find fundamental solutions to this challenge." Another young researcher, Yutaka Hoshina of the Analysis Technology Research Center, was honored this past summer by the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence with a JSAI Incentive Award. Hoshina-san's work involves the application of AI to expand the varieties of work for employees with disabilities, specifically in the area of evaluating product quality.
