Juab School District has an opening for a WASP Academy Instructor for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a part-time position at Juab High School. WASP Academy acts as an independent study/consult class for students and allows them time to get their course work?complete. Duties include instructional support for students, proctoring assessments, and general classroom teaching and management?responsibilities. Training is the lifeblood of sound jobs and careers. The Governor's Reentry Training and Employment Center is the only training center for court-involved persons and those grappling with addiction. The NJRC employment rate generally is 57 and 62 percent, adjusted seasonally. For those receiving "nationally-recognized" industry credentials at the Training Center, the employment rate jumps dramatically to 92 percent. Re-entry support is crucial to prevent recidivism and relapse. The dignity of a good family-sustaining job and the ability to rebuild your life and relationships is how we promote long-term stability. When I was at DOL, we were using grants to promote re-entry and bond employers whose only obstacle to hiring someone with substance misuse or criminal justice involvement was the fear of theft. #recoveryispossible #reentry

I was reminded this week of how precious our Teaching Assistants / Learning Assistants are, and how ridiculous their salaries remain across the UK. I work across two schools where we work with vulnerable, and very challenging, young people. We train everyone to understand trauma and its effect on the brain, but it takes a very special kind of human to be able to really put this knowledge into practice day in and day out. My teams know that trauma wires the brain to see threat in simple acts of support, to go into fight mode, to resist and to see the world as a frightening place because that is what experienxe has taught them to be true. Some children who have experienced trauma can present as rude, defiant, angry, abusive and all the while we need to work to rewire their brains to show them that with us they are safe, that boundaries bring security, that positive communication nurtures safe relationships. My teams work sensitively and skillfully with children others may reject. Where we experience success, we contribute to lowering future crime rates, social care costs and repeating patterns of negative behaviour. And yet what fiscal value do we place on support staff?
