Thank you Fr. John Dillon, Tony Bosnick, and the generous parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi in Derwood, Maryland for once again contributing thousands of cans and packages of non-perishable food to our 11th Annual Summer in the City campaign. Hunger doesn’t take a vacation — you have helped many District families this summer. #summerinthecity #ActionsNotWords

It’s long overdue, but the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released new requirements for removing lead service lines in the U.S.? ? Access to safe and affordable water is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of our communities. It’s crucial to prioritize efforts to remove lead service lines, especially in rural and underserved neighborhoods that have historically been overlooked.? ? Read more about the new requirements here: https://lnkd.in/gHZ4frtZ?
Access to safe, affordable water is a cornerstone of a healthy community and a human right. For generations, lead exposure has silently robbed millions of children - especially those living in communities of color, communities with lower incomes, and rural places - of this right. With this regulation in place, our country finally says: no more. RWJF applauds EPA for requiring the removal of all remaining lead service lines in the United States within the next decade. It is now incumbent upon all of us—water utilities, policymakers, community leaders, and philanthropies—to work together to devote the necessary resources to beating that deadline and prioritizing the most affected neighborhoods for immediate action.

While many children throughout the country welcome to start of summer, for millions of families, summer can mean additional hardship. 14 million U.S. children -- one in five -- live in households that struggle against hunger, and we know that child hunger soars during the summer when traditional school meals are unavailable. As our Countdown to Summer giving campaign comes to an end, will you help Hunger Free America connect families in need with food? https://lnkd.in/e929GSXK

For the last 14 years, Denny's has raised funds toward ending childhood hunger through the generosity of our guests, which has helped us provide $13.6 million to the nonprofit No Kid Hungry since 2011. It’s an amazing community effort and a need that we don’t take lightly – donations help remove barriers that prevent kids from getting the meals they need to succeed. But one company, alone, cannot solve this critical issue across our country; it takes collective action to drive change. That’s why I am honored to share that I have joined No Kid Hungry’s CEO Pledge to End Summer Hunger. Alongside incredible leaders across industries like Darin Harris, Danny Meyer, Barry McGowan and Charles Watson, CFE, we are joining forces to help create a future where every child has access to three nutritious meals, 365 days a year. By joining this pledge, we commit to mobilize our brands by investing dollars, raising awareness, and using our platforms to help increase the number of children receiving summer meals from 2.8 million to 30 million nationwide. This pledge is a call to action to lead by example. I hope that you’ll consider joining me in this important cause to ensure a brighter future for tomorrow’s leaders. #NoKidHungry #Dennys

This past Tuesday was Hunger Action Day! CEO Scott Rumpsa joined The Morning Mix on Fox 17 to share how neighbors like you can help nourish our neighbors and build a stronger, healthier communtiy. Hunger doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Families who struggle to access the food they need often face other challenges, and a setback in one area creates a ripple effect across systems: education, childcare, employment, housing, healthcare, food, finances, and transportation. Complex problems require holistic solutions - that’s why we combine healthy food access, resource navigation, financial empowerment, and street outreach to build a community where all of our neighbors have what they need to thrive, and no one faces challenges alone. It takes a community, working together, to nourish our neighbors! Act with Action House by volunteering, hosting a drive, or donating to support our work! I believe it is time to review my paper with Patrick Bixler, Dr. Vedlitz at Texas A&M University - The Bush School of Government and Public Service, William Brown, published in early 2024. This paper presents examples of emergency situations in Texas, similar to the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl that we are currently experiencing. Houstonians are facing significant outages, and marginalized populations are more severely impacted by the resulting damages and extreme weather. In this context, the role of nonprofits in enhancing community resilience is becoming increasingly important. This paper offers insights that may inform the development of community resilience policies. https://lnkd.in/guATXvxR

SATURDAY MORNING (AUGUST 3RD) at 8:30 AM our amazing Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be cleaning up the community once again! In honor of Kenny "Fanatic" Hogan, for this Community Clean-Up our volunteers will be meeting up in the parking lot of Rodriguez Boxing Club, located at 1350 W Roosevelt St Phoenix, AZ 85007 NO OPEN-TOED SHOES Cleaning up loose trash is one of the best ways to pitch in for your community and the environment. Volunteering as a means to help conserve and protect the environment has a lot of upsides. Of course, the first is that you’ll be taking care of our planet, and it badly needs a little love given the myriad ways in which we’ve become adept at destroying it. But beyond that, volunteering for a cause you care about is a great way to meet like-minded people, make friends, and pull yourself out of the blues that sometimes accompany caring a lot about something important – especially if you feel alone in your endeavors. None of us like the sight of litter. Litter spoils the look of where we live but that’s not the only reason for picking up litter. There are a number of benefits from picking up litter that you may not have considered before. Volunteer-led projects such as these are one of the quickest, simplest, and least expensive ways to inspire more community spirit and civic action. A visually appealing community increases property values, attracts businesses, and improves the neighborhood's image. Beauty is one of the three most influential factors in community attachment, which means loyalty, to your particular town or city. Some research even shows that a nice-looking neighborhood promotes good behavior. Join us in keeping the community clean! For more information: https://lnkd.in/gg_x58uR #TeamWhoIAm_Phoenix
