At Proyecto Pastoral, we’re witnessing something powerful: teens like Joseph, who were raised in economically underserved areas, are stepping up as leaders and mentors for the younger generation. Martial arts aren’t just about self-defense; they’re about teaching discipline, leadership, and responsibility. For Joseph, this program has been a catalyst for positive change, not just for himself, but for the entire community. It’s proven that youth mentorship programs like this one foster resilience and community cohesion. Did You Know: *National Mentoring Partnership* highlights that youth who engage in mentorship are 55% more likely to enroll in college and 78% more likely to hold leadership roles later in life.

Welcome to Belgium ?? Our next good practice in local youth work addresses urban leadership!?? JES vzw works in three big cities - Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent. and is devoted to building young people's capacities through participation, leadership training, and volunteering. JES helps young people become urban leaders! ??♀???♂? And what does one urban leader do? ??starts his/her youth organization ??starts representing the voice of young people ??starts organizing events for youth (cultural festivals or sports events for example) Urban leadership program has a competency model that besides leadership includes trust, engagement, connection, and empowerment as core skills. And the support tool is a coaching framework every young volunteer can benefit from. After volunteering and acquiring the skills, the youngsters are ready to initiate their own projects, become urban leaders, and take ownership and accountability for their quality of life in a big city. ??Fun fact: Over the 3 cities, JES has more than 500 volunteers!?? Partnerships Help Prevent the Summer Slide Summer learning loss is a significant concern as it can set students back several months in their educational progress, mainly affecting those in under-resourced communities. In this week's video, we'll discuss an effective strategy for addressing this issue: fostering partnerships between schools, community organizations, and local businesses. #EducationalLeader, Kim “When students are led well, they learn well.” The views shared in the Educational Leadership Moment are solely mine and do not reflect the positions of my employer or any entity within the local, state, or federal government sectors. #Education #Leadership

When we invest our time in volunteering for youth sports or mentoring young minds, we’re doing more than teaching them how to score points or win games—we’re building the foundation for tomorrow’s leaders.? As a coach and volunteer, I’ve seen firsthand how the lessons learned on the court extend far beyond the game:? ?? Sportsmanship teaches respect, teamwork, and resilience—qualities every future leader needs to succeed in business and life.?? ?? Volunteering shows kids the value of giving back, instilling a mindset of service and responsibility.?? ?? Leadership Development begins with encouragement. Guiding young people to set goals, face challenges, and grow from setbacks plants the seeds for future success.? These moments are more than just practice or play—they’re preparation for life. By building up today’s youth, we’re not just shaping better athletes or students; we’re nurturing the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow.? Whether you’re coaching, mentoring, or supporting your community, know that your efforts leave a lasting impact. Let’s continue investing in our future by supporting the next generation.? #Sportsmanship #YouthLeadership #Volunteering #FutureLeaders #BusinessSuccess

Mentorship is often seen as a way to help new teachers succeed—but what about recognizing the mentors themselves? Veteran teachers are expected to guide their peers, yet many receive little more than a “thank you.” It’s time to change that. Offer stipends for mentors who provide ongoing support. Pair mentors with teachers in their subject areas to create meaningful connections. Build leadership roles that allow mentors to influence policy and practice. Let’s honor the expertise of veteran educators by giving them the resources and recognition they deserve.

??? Chris, a student supported by our partner CAPE Mentors, believes in the importance of having teachers from diverse backgrounds and inclusive environments in school. ?? At Mission 44, we want to see classrooms where every student feels a sense of belonging, and can see themselves and their communities reflected in their teaching staff. That’s why we’re calling on the Government to #PreventExclusions by investing in diversity in teaching and senior school leadership, and introducing mandatory inclusive practice and anti-racism training for all teachers and school governors. ??
