It's been nearly two months since first stepping into Google! It has been quite an adventure to say the least. Apart from navigating around the office and discovering the best MKs (micro kitchens) ??, I've also been immersing myself in all things apps and empowering app developers with tools and strategies for profitable growth. Also, a special shoutout to my manager Saad Hamid and everyone on the team that has been so ready to offer help and advice?? While diving into new experiences can feel slightly overwhelming at times, here are the things that have helped me along the way: ?? Breaking down tasks or information into smaller, manageable chunks makes daunting tasks feel less intimidating and more achievable. ??♀? Taking mindful breaks! Being overwhelmed clouds your thinking, so I like to take deep breaths to bring myself back to the current moment. You’re more likely to return to the challenge with a fresh perspective after. ??Prioritization is something that continues to be important to me. Organizing to-do list’s by ranking tasks from urgent to less urgent ensures that critical tasks are addressed promptly while maintaining flexibility for less pressing ones. I’m so excited to see what the months ahead have in store ????

The recent Google Olympics spot is a bad prompt, bad use case, and a bad ad. ?? Bad prompt: has no context, nearly no personalization. Add information about your daughter. Tell a story about what Sydney means to her. Give examples of her writing. Let her write the prompt. ?? Bad use case: shows full replacement of humans. Use it instead to help you write or to edit your draft. Or call out that it’s a draft. ?? Bad ad: combination of those things + during one of the most motivational events on television, a relatively non-motivational ad Google is doing a LOT of great things—this one ad just doesn’t feel like the best showcase of their brand and products. Thoughts?

Notion <=> Google Tasks Sync is on ProductHunt ?? I appreciate your support ?? I aimed to do the launch earlier, but faced issues. I found that some users didn't finish the sign-up process, some encountered problems after setting up their synchronization. I needed to setup communication channels with users to get insights what's working what's not. And last couple weeks I was haunting bugs and setting up observability stuff. Most of the problems were fixed. The stats have been largely improved. Not it's time for the ProductHunt launch ?? Link in the comments ??

Despite the platitudes and occasional concessions offered at the Web Creator Summit 2024, it's clear there's a continued disconnect between what Google says and what Google does. The fact that this event was filled with apparent contradictions and defensiveness on the G side was not surprising to hear. What has surprised me, is how this clear disconnect was able to manifest itself even during the course of a meet-up that was Google's big opportunity to perform damage control at the highest level. Take some of the headline quotes coming out of the summit: ?? "We don’t want you paying money for SEO audits to try to recover." While I (unlike some others I've seen pick up on this) appreciate this was said in a conciliatory, 'we-need-to-do-better' sense, rather than a direct attack on SEOs, it's pretty tone-deaf. If Google can't assist in HCU recovery and professional SEOs are apparently not the answer - what is? There was a lot of (admittedly) paraphrased chatter about coming to terms and 'moving on' from HCU. Not acceptable. ?? "There is no sitewide classifier; only page-level signals." By all accounts, this was espoused by Pandu Nayak and backed up by several Googlers present in the breakout groups. Coupled with some seemingly shit takes and preaching to the choir on the drawbacks of using AI for content creation, Nayak's contributions throughout the event sound infuriating for those involved. ?? "Your content is wonderful; the problem isn't you; it's us." It sounds as though Google's curated creator guestlist was made up of those whose websites it conceded had suffered at no fault of their own. Speaking as a fan of Rutledge and TechRaptor's work for many years, it's *so* clear to me, and indeed anyone in the gaming space, that the site has been wrongly penalised. Hearing this echoed by Google must be in equal parts relieving but also hugely antagonising. Another example of the left hand not always knowing what the right hand is doing - even 14 months after the update in question. A huge admission of failure on multiple levels, and no comfort at all for those whose businesses and livelihoods were shattered in one fell swoop, with few signs of improvement since. It's encouraging to hear future updates *may* (and it's a big may, by the sounds of it) pave the way to HCU recovery. But it's by no means a done thing, despite the admission that a lot of the issues are an 'us' (i.e. Google) problem. There seems to be little desire to carry out a root-and-branch review into where things went so badly wrong at all, if indeed, those involved (beyond the search liaisons and Danny Sullivans of this world) even admit things did go wrong at all. And that's not okay.

Great summary of the news emerging from Google's 'Web Creator Conversation' by ICS-digital Head of SEO Chris Mawson. The snippets coming out over Twitter/X have been pretty jaw dropping and have prompted 2 main feelings from me - 1. Never has it been so clear that current-day Google is a deeply fallible organisation that, in spite of its size and influence on our daily lives, is also itself prone to mistakes, failures and human anxiety/politicking/shareholder pressure with big implications for the rest of us. 2. I'm once again glad that we at ICS have so many approaches across onsite and offsite strategy in our service mix that we're in a position to support clients who want to experiment, research, scale and/or adapt in their current top markets, or branch out into other multilingual geos where they may have greater scope for SEO gains. #seoagency #webcreatorconversation #googleupdates #globalseo
