Let’s say I’m a truck driver recruiter and I treat my candidates like dirt under my feet or only make enough time to speak to each candidate like it’s a rushed dinner meal (impersonal). Even more, with no personalization or getting to know each of them and their long term goals or desires. (Finding out what positive things they do bring the company or organization). How well do you think I’d succeed at being a successful recruiter? Not well, and this example is exactly what’s currently going on in the trucking industry with some recruiters. For those who recruit truck drivers, you need to treat candidates the same way you treat your spouse, kids, family or friends otherwise you’ll never succeed at grasping the concept of what truck drivers actually want and need long term to stay employed and end “driver retention” problems plaguing the trucking industry. We aren’t dirt and we won’t tolerate being treat as such. Do you like having your home time changed? Do you like having inconsistent paychecks? Do you like constantly being treated like a pinball machine? Do you like being treated like an object? I’d have to say no, and many of you would complain to HR if you were treated in that manner.
