I've published an Insights Series report on Community Empowerment and the draft Land Reform Bill: Scotland's model of community empowerment, and community landownership specifically, is premised on community groups proactively addressing their needs. However, there is very little provision for community empowerment in the draft?Land Reform Bill 2024. What could strengthen proactive communities within the Land Reform Bill proposals? A community site designation, such as a 'Site of Community Significance', could reinforce the long term Scottish Government commitment to supporting communities to address their land needs. Such a designation would provide an initial proactive marker of community land need to engage in the provisions of the Bill. It could also better integrate the proposals of this Bill with the wider set of policies like Community Right to Buy and Local Place Plans, moving towards simplification, integration, and strengthening of an increasingly complex community empowerment policy framework. https://lnkd.in/etAh7WAp #landreform #communityempowerment #scotland #ACV #planning #communities #localplaceplans #communityrighttobuy

The Federal Bi-Partisan Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences Act (H.R. 6492 - The EXPLORE Act) became law on January 4, 2025. Among its many public benefits, the law is significant for Native American #tribes because it allows them -- for the first time -- direct access to federal funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, effectively giving tribal nations the ability to apply for #conservation grants directly. As such it recognizes their #sovereignty and role in #EnvironmentalStewardship, which Forest Bridges wholeheartedly supports and has inscribed in its Principles of Agreement for the O&C public lands of western Oregon. The following brief The Wilderness Society blog provides a snapshot of five ways the law improves outdoor access to public lands for everyone, with special provisions for under-served groups. https://lnkd.in/g2Qjs33p

Our parks and recreation programs, recycling services, yard waste and bulk pickup, customer service, City buildings, and police services all received high marks. ?? Key Survey Insights: ? 86% rate Gaithersburg highly as a great place to live ? Strong ratings for parks, facilities, and City services ? The City scored above the U.S. average in 45 of 51 categories! Respondents also highlighted areas for improvement, including: ?? Traffic flow and ease of getting around ?? Street maintenance ?? Public safety ??
