Is it scary to cross the 52 to check out an event? Some say it's a mythical border, but it's not exactly like the famous wall of Snow and Ice. Can you name that movie? ;) I pulled the event data from the spooky month of October to see how the distribution looked. Here's what I found: Of the 45 events that found their way into the Coyote: 28 were above the 52 freeway -----52----- 17 were below the 52 freeway Why did I pick this line? This is the unofficial divider between north and south county. When traffic is factored in, it can be quite a barrier to cross. Snow and Ice is no match. But that doesn't mean that half of the city's events are off-limits! They just require a little planning and strategy. I asked around so you don't have to. Some say they check out a coffee shop around noon or 1 and work remotely until it's time to connect. These are the dedicated coyotes. Howl yeah. Actually, check out Fred's famous post about his favorite spots to meet investors and founders. The list is quite robust and I'm still working through it to try them all. And you might see a Fred in the wild! Downtown Works has coworking spaces all over, and you could pop in for a day if you need more focused time. I think they have a partnership with SIX° Networking if they're on your radar. Edge has been known to have open coworking on days they hold events. I bet others do this unofficially too. What I tend to do is load up a podcast, call my mom, or just enjoy the freedom from my phone. Traffic is annoying, thinking time? Kinda nice. This city is wonderful, and part of the reason is that our scene is massive, geographically and in density. If we plan ahead, we can vanquish the wall and take advantage of all this city has to offer. Howl yeah! -- If you're already howling with us, you know, ahwoo! If you'd like to get more plugged in, meet other founders, and make new connections, join the pack. Come howl with us.
I agree, always good to migrate the pack and explore new terrain.
Great point, Jonah Peake ??. I try to get out of the coyote hood to north county at least a few times a month. :)
Funny that 52 is separating south from north - La Jolla doesn't seem so north to me ??
We do have a partnership with Downtown Works?? They've got amazing spaces in Downtown, Pacific Beach and Carlsbad and just this month opened their Mission Valley location! Highly recommend. Thanks for the shoutout Jonah Peake ??
