One of my favourite projects we’ve worked on to date…. A great conference, with great people and an important mission: to improve lives of those with heart failure ??. This hybrid event really brought together all our skills and passions at Virtual Approval, with one purpose: create an intertwined, valuable experience. 6 + months of….. ?? Speaker management ??♀? Virtual / hybrid experience strategy ?? Photography & videography ?? Analytics QUESTION: What makes a hybrid event work? ANSWER: Not one single thing, or a small group of things… but lots of components coming together in harmony. We’re not here to construct complex symphonies, just a smooth experience for online and in person attendees / speakers / exhibitors / performers / hosts so the event has a cohesive rhythm. The Importance of Materiovigilance in Healthcare & Insights from ASQua's Masterclass ?? "Materiovigilance" encompasses a vast array of medical devices, from simple tongue depressors to complex MRI equipment and sophisticated software systems. This diversity makes monitoring and managing potential risks inherently more challenging. It requires interdisciplinary collaboration to effectively track and capture "good catches" and "near misses." Hospitals have made significant strides in developing robust incident reporting systems, but there's still a gap when it comes to actively identifying and addressing adverse events related to medical devices. I recently had the privilege of attending the Masterclass on "Medical Device Safety and Adverse Event Investigation" organized by ASQua. The session was a revelation, highlighting the critical importance of materiovigilance in healthcare—a field that demands our collective attention and action. The insights shared by Eric Woo, MBA, CPHRM and Prof.Shin Ushiro during the masterclass were invaluable. They expertly explained the concepts, risks, challenges, and methodologies needed to address these issues. A huge thank you to ASQua and the faculty for such an informative and engaging session. This masterclass underscored the urgent need for healthcare professionals to prioritize medical device safety and actively engage in materiovigilance efforts. ??I’m incredibly happy to announce today the release of the 8th edition #JCI_Accreditation_Standards for #Hospitals and #Academic_Medical_Centers. The new edition strengthens existing standards to help advance patient safety, quality improvement, and the global health impact. ?? We have reduced the number of standards by approximately 10-15% by consolidating requirements, removing duplicates and focusing on more value-added criteria, we intend to help advance patient safety and improve the overall care experience ?The #8th_edition is divided into five main sections: 1) Accreditation Participation Requirements, 2) Patient-Centered Care, 3) Healthcare Organization Management, 4) Global Health Impact and 5) Academic Medical Center Standards. ??Part of the #Global_Health_Impact section includes new international standards for environmental sustainability, developed in collaboration with the International Hospital Federation’s Geneva Sustainability Centre. To allow healthcare organizations time to meet the sustainability standards, full compliance with these requirements will not be mandatory until Jan. 1, 2026. ?Effective Jan. 1, 2025, all hospitals and academic medical centers seeking accreditation or reaccreditation from JCI must adhere to the 8th edition standards, which will be the basis for their surveys. It outlines how perioperative teams can practically apply one safe cultural for all to improvement projects to save patients, save staff, and save time. When teams collaborate to apply the same frameworks for patient and staff safety, implementation of improvements is more efficient and effective. Case studies taken from Australian Operating Theatres will be utilised to demonstrate how these tools work within clinical practice.?
