Yesterday, Regen Med hosted their first patient support and advocacy group at the clinic. We talked about their journey navigating the healthcare system and their challenges to diagnosis and treatment.
Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune neurological disorder, causes localized and generalized muscle that often goes undiagnosed for years. And adding insult to injury, patients are not educated about all the treatment options available to them, including Therapeutic Apheresis, particularly Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE).
TPE is a vital treatment for managing myasthenia gravis (MG), especially during crises. While traditionally gate-kept by hospitals, TPE can be safely administered outside the hospital, offering flexibility and comfort for stable patients needing chronic treatment of TPE. Of course, I continue to advocate for TPE to be performed
by physicians that have the medical education, training, and fellowship to perform the procedures.
This shift empowers patients to manage their condition more effectively while maintaining their daily routines. Let’s advocate for wider access to outpatient-based, non-hospital associated TPE, ensuring all MG patients and other patients with autoimmune disorders receive timely and convenient care.
Together, we can enhance quality of life and treatment outcomes for those living with autoimmune disorder, including MG. Thank you to the Myasthenia Gravis Association for their groundbreaking efforts for MG patients.
