As a corporate social responsibility (CSR) manager, you know that donating and volunteering has a huge, positive impact on our communities. Now consider this: According to new research from the University of Oregon, the same part of the brain is responsible for both the generosity we feel when we share our time, money, and talent with others and the gratitude we feel throughout our daily lives. What does this mean for CSR? Vox distilled this research into concrete activities you can use to foster gratitude, including: gratitude journaling, gratitude letters and visits, and spending money on experiences rather than things. To that great list, we would add that volunteering and community events, and even engaging fundraisers can go a long way, too. The takeaway? From Thanksgiving in the United States throughout Giving Season all over the world, CSR professionals have more power than we realized to foster both generosity and gratitude. To learn how to harness that power, read the latest issue of Vantage, a monthly newsletter on the future of responsible business from Deed. Every month, you'll get curated CSR news, commentary, employee engagement ideas, and exclusive event invites. Along the way, you'll find out more about Deed's workplace giving and volunteering platform, and how we can help your organization achieve your big ESG goals. Read it here: https://bit.ly/416RMfJ

How do you maximize employee engagement in your corporate volunteering programs? Groundswell was honored to co-host a panel last night with LA Community Leaders at United Talent Agency. Some awesome takeaways ?? ?? Desiree Flores spoke about UTA's continued commitment to a single day of service, which serves as a stake in the ground across the agency that everyone can rally around. She added that they've already set their 2025 date and are already reaching out to division leaders to ensure that they have the lead time (and context around level of importance) to plan. ?? Velma B. of US Venture talked about the importance of building relationships throughout their sprawling divisions, stressing that she aims to discover what issues or causes make specific leaders excited so that she can lean into that enthusiasm. She also added an inspiring tidbit about USV's philosophy on volunteering - anything counts in their $25 Dollars for Doers program. "You can mow your elderly neighbor's lawn, and our founders will pay you to do it." I found that approach particularly inspiring. ?? Tony Wu noted that sweetgreen's challenges are actually an inverse of the norm - it's easier for them to engage their hourly retail workers in volunteerism than their corporate employees. He credited the store-level success to how Sweetgreen has baked social impact into their DNA, and giving back is simply an operating cost at the store level and in the launch process. There were a few things that they all agreed on. One was the need to engage the nonprofit partner in scoping a volunteer engagement that made sense for them and their operations. As a former nonprofit executive, it was really refreshing to hear them acknowledge that not every organization needs 50 people in matching shirts to show up, but that with enough exploration and dialogue, there's almost always an opportunity to find mutual alignment and value. A special shoutout to Rebecca Holliday, Groundswell's Head of Customer Success and Impact, for helping to pitch the panel and for moderating it last night. I'm afraid we might lose her to The View or Good Morning America. Also, special thank you to UTA and their whole team for hosting - what an amazing venue. #CSR #socialimpact #corporatesocialresponsibility #volunteer #volunteering #employeeengagement #engagement #nonprofit #charity #philanthropy #teamrubicon

Embracing the Power of Volunteering: Giving Back to Society In a world that often prioritizes personal and professional advancement, we can sometimes overlook the profound impact of volunteering on society. However, within these acts of service lies the essence of community, empathy, and collective advancement. Volunteering is not merely about dedicating time; it's about enriching lives, including our own, in ways we may never have imagined. Volunteering transcends mere charity; it's a transformative journey towards discovering purpose and meaning in our lives. Whether it's mentoring underprivileged youth, feeding the homeless, or conserving the environment, each act of service resonates with a deeper sense of fulfillment and connection to the world around us. Volunteering is not a solitary endeavor; it's a collaborative effort that bridges diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Through volunteer work, we cultivate empathy, understanding, and respect for others, breaking down barriers and fostering a culture of inclusivity and unity. Contrary to popular belief, volunteering isn't solely about altruism; it's also an investment in personal and professional growth. The skills acquired through volunteer work – leadership, communication, teamwork, problem-solving – are invaluable assets that enhance our capabilities in all facets of life, including the workplace. The impact of volunteering extends far beyond the immediate beneficiaries; it leaves an indelible mark on communities and society as a whole. By addressing pressing social issues, volunteering serves as a catalyst for positive change, empowering individuals and communities to thrive and flourish. In today's corporate landscape, businesses are increasingly recognizing the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the role of volunteering in fostering a positive impact. Companies that integrate volunteering into their culture not only enhance employee engagement and morale but also contribute to building stronger, more resilient communities. Embarking on a volunteering journey may seem daunting initially, but the rewards far outweigh the initial hesitations. Whether it's dedicating a few hours a week or participating in a community service #Volunteering #Givingbacktothesociety
