As someone who loves playing poker, I couldn’t agree more. Poker is a great way to develop skills in understanding people and reading situations, both of which are essential for effective collaboration. I often find myself playing in male-dominated environments, which has significantly boosted my confidence as I navigate the tech industry. Learning a new skill from the ground up in these spaces has helped me, as a woman, to embrace the possibility of failure through risk taking while building confidence in my ideas and actions. I've become comfortable trying new techniques and strategies, even when unsure of their success—a problem solving approach I’ve found valuable in both my creative and professional work. I’ve noticed that many women are hesitant to jump into poker, often due to a fear of failure. My advice: don’t let that hold you back. If you have the chance to learn, lean in—you might be surprised at how the skills you pick up in a recreational environment can positively impact your career. It’s empowering to see women supporting and learning from each other, and I’m so happy to see events like this exist. Thanks for sharing, Jaiden P.! Additionally, I believe there’s real professional value in investing time in recreational activities that others in your industry are passionate about. It’s a fun way to build connections and foster team bonding. During my freshman year of college, I noticed many people in the tech space enjoyed rock climbing, so I decided to give it a try. It was new and outside of my comfort zone, but learning from a trusted friend made it a fun and empowering experience. Teach and learn from your friends where you can—it can open doors both personally and professionally.

Playing Chess, Not Checkers ?? In the world of channel business, patience is a critical skill. Speaking from experience, mastering this trait has proven invaluable. While easier said than done, being calculated and playing the long game has yielded far better results for me. ?? Encountering a partner who's hesitant or uninterested in your offerings? Persistence is key. Avoid pestering, but strategically share company highlights in digestible ways. 'Small bites' through personalized social posts or highlight videos can work wonders. ? When partners deviate from agreed-upon rules or processes, maintaining flexibility is important. However, standing firm on practices that experience shows to be unsuccessful is crucial. Patience pays off, either through mutual respect and adaptation or eventual alignment. ?? Oh, a partner is upset and has gone to your boss? A TSD? Maybe saying unkind or untrue things about you? Again, patience is key here. If you react and lash out then you lose. This is a highly passionate business. It’ll all come out in the wash.
