True wealth isn't just about being lucky. It's about making smart decisions, planning ahead and having a trusted companion by your side to guide you through the financial landscapes. Patricia Janco-Tupper #askBison #BisonWealth #Packy #stpatricksday
?? Happy St. Patrick's Day! ?? As we celebrate the luck of the Irish today, let's not forget that good fortune often comes to those who are prepared. Just like my two loyal companions @hammyandbrody here (swipe to see them dressed in their festive green!), who remind us that vigilance and preparation are key to finding our own 'pot of gold.' In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, I want to share a little wisdom: true wealth isn't just about being lucky. It's about making smart decisions, planning ahead, and having a trusted companion by your side to guide you through the financial landscapes. Let's make our own luck by being proactive about our financial future. Whether you're looking to grow your wealth, plan for retirement, or navigate the markets, we are here to help. And just for fun, tell us – if you found a pot of gold, what would you do with it? Wishing everyone a prosperous and joyful St. Patrick's Day! May your day be filled with good health, wealth, and the joy of furry friends. ???? #StPatricksDay #WealthManagement #FinancialPlanning #LuckOfTheIrish #youvebeenpackyed Becky Wuest Creavin, CFP?, MBA Holly Jamison, MBA

Columbus Day, as a federal holiday, began in 1971.?Today, more than 500 years removed from his arrival in North America, many understand our Nation’s history – ‘good and other’ – from varied perspectives. Like much of our Nation’s complex past, our complicated story has many chapters.?The trials, tribulations, and achievements of our predecessors are part of why our United States are so strong.?We have a rich and diverse shared history. We can draw inspiration from humans, like explorers and dreamers, who were willing to search for the next great thing, drawing the map as they go.?Many believe it is this same quest for knowledge that led us to technical achievements like flight, medical advances or computers and smart phones.?We can apply similar thinking to our own lives, or place in history, examining/addressing mistakes and opportunities, hopefully improving ourselves and the world around us – including #DCMA – to be a better place.?

#ICYMI - The Porter Group LLC team shared the latest happening in DC as Congressional leadership prepares for a meeting with the White House this morning to discuss preventing a government shutdown. If you haven't signed up for the newsletter yet you can here: https://lnkd.in/gDUDDTJs _________________________________________________________ In what feels like Groundhog Day, Congress is once again facing a potential government shutdown with just days before a funding deadline and little clarity as to a way forward. How Did We Get Here? You may recall that Congress has now passed three continuing resolutions to keep the federal government operating after the original October 1, 2023 deadline. In that time, we’ve seen House and Senate leaders agree to an overall funding number for Fiscal Year 2024 as well as the individual funding levels for each of the twelve annual appropriations bills, and yet, final agreements on the language still have not been released with just days to go before the first deadline. With a “laddered’ continuing resolution pushed by House Republicans late last year, funding for programs and agencies under Agriculture; Energy and Water; Military Construction and the Veterans Administration; as well as Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development are all set to expire on Friday, March 1. The remaining eight funding bills (Commerce, Justice, Science; Defense; Financial Services; Homeland Security; Interior and EPA; Labor, Health and Human Services; Legislative Branch; and State and Foreign Operations) are funded through Friday, March 8. Where Are We Now? On a House Republican Conference call late last week, Speaker Johnson floated his desire to vote on the first package of bills this week but received pushback from members of the House Freedom Caucus who want to see funding be cut and conservative policy riders that were included in House-passed bills included in the final package. President Biden has invited the “Big Four” leaders (Senate Majority Leader Schumer, Speaker of the House Johnson, Senate Minority Leader McConnell, and House Minority Leader Jeffries) to the White House to discuss a path forward on FY24 funding as well as pending emergency funding requests for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. Another important factor in all of these discussions is a provision tucked into last year’s agreement on the debt ceiling, which said that if Congress fails to pass all twelve spending bills by April 30, 2024, discretionary spending will be cut be tens of billions of dollars. The Senate returned to Washington on Monday, while the House returns on Wednesday with no clarity on the path forward. Full Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dfa5V7xV

Things I Said THIS WEEK: I always think it’s so interesting that we celebrate on July 4th. We don’t celebrate the ratification of the Constitution. We don’t celebrate the day the first shots were fired, the day the Cornwall surrendered, or the day the treaty was signed. We celebrate the day we DECLARED our freedom. Declarations matter. Me: I’m actually very pragmatic. Friend: That’s what all bloodthirsty people say. It makes a difference when you say yes. Everything isn’t done but you’re IN. And things start to move in you and around you. Commit. Beginning has more power than you know. I hate newsletters. Teams matter because on a good team someone else sees what you cannot, does what you cannot, IS what you cannot be. Too many of us are trying to be all of it. Failing because we can’t see it. And missing the chance to build something great. When I met you, you were working 12-18 hour days regularly and most weekends. And it was never enough. Now you have a life. A stable, healthy business. You got a dog for Pete’s sake! Sometimes we don’t see how far we’ve come unless there is someone around who has seen it first-hand. There are different kinds of freedom. Being free of the ugly, harsh, unreasonable, unfair, and mostly not-useful voice in your head is a way bigger deal than most people realize. “You have been a pivotal. One of the three or four most important people in my life.” — Client #leadership #professionaldevelopment

On this Veteran's Day, I pause to deeply honor all who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage and dedication have paved the way for those of us still serving, like me, for 28 years in the United States Navy. I often reflect on my officer journey—as this young, wide-eyed junior officer, uncertain of my place in a rigid system, yet driven by my determination and creativity. Back then, I was learning the ropes of my public affairs profession, still married to my ex-husband, still searching for how a quirky, fiercely independent spirit could belong in an institution that often values conformity over individuality. I took on the toughest assignments, each time pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do. And yet, I never quite fit the mold, never chased the accolades, and rarely received the awards (or even the greatest evaluations). For a long time, I thought this lack of validation might mean I was falling short. But now, I see those very differences are my strength. My ability to challenge norms and think independently is precisely what the system needs. I realize now that true service is about speaking up, even when it’s hard, even when it costs you. It’s about advocating for change from within, for standing up not only to serve but to question, to seek justice, and to honor the legacy of those who gave everything so we could have that freedom. As a public affairs officer, I know the power of truth, and I believe in asking the difficult questions—especially the ones that others may be too afraid to voice. Why do we send our young men and women into harm's way? Are we, as a nation, truly informed and united in these decisions? These are the questions that keep trust in our institutions alive and strong. This is why I’m committed to using my voice, both on my podcast and in my life, to serve my community in a new way. Using the skills I’ve honed over nearly three decades, I want to help bring clarity, accountability, and hope. The courage to be different, to be unafraid of the truth, has become my purpose. Together, let’s be part of the solution.

?? Age is Just a Number: Meet the 104-Year-Old 'Lobster Lady' ?? Virginia Oliver, Maine's maritime marvel, just renewed her commercial lobster license at 104 years old. Why? Because retirement isn't in her vocabulary! Picture this: A centenarian rising at 3 AM, donning lipstick and earrings, to catch lobsters thrice a week. That's Virginia's life, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Her secret? "You've gotta keep living, you gotta keep working." Virginia's story isn't just about lobsters. It's about passion, purpose, and shattering age stereotypes. As we plan for our futures, perhaps we should ask: What's our equivalent of Virginia's lobster boat? Let's celebrate those who prove that life's adventures don't have an expiration date. #AgelessInspiration #LifelongPurpose #RetirementRedefined Source:
