#ICYMI ?? ?? Local and state leaders broke ground on the Valencia County Hospital in Los Lunas. The hospital will take about a year and a half to construct and will be run by a partnership between Community Hospital Corporation and Lovelace Health System. The hospital will have its own emergency department and two operating rooms along with 11 in-patient rooms for overnight stays. Patients will have access to MRIs, X-rays and a pharmacy, something patients today have to go to Albuquerque for. https://lnkd.in/gmwv7t-6

New in JACEP Open: The hospital costs of high emergency department pediatric readiness This study estimated the annual costs for hospitals to achieve high pediatric readiness (HPR) in emergency departments, with expenses ranging from $77,712 for low-volume EDs to $279,134 for high-volume EDs. Equipment accounted for a small fraction of costs, with per-child costs varying from $3 to $222. Achieving HPR is financially modest, especially when evaluated on a per-patient basis.
