This is one of my A Miracle In The Making collection abstract montages featuring Taylor Swift! And yes I took the original photos as well. Over 40 years I made 600 of these composites or montages from my fine art photographs. This is another complicated process that takes fine art portraits of people that I add textures to and otherwise paint the individual layers on the computer. Then I make micro-adjustments to the individual layers so parts of them show through others. Then I compile them into one abstract image. What makes my art so unique is my use of digitally painted abstract layers that cause each viewer to have different perceptions of what they are observing.?It is a unique technique that leads viewers to have false affirmations of what they see, as well as challenges to the conscious mind to see what exists. The term for this psychological effect is scotomisation. These shapes, patterns, and illusions often lead to the viewer working to find objects in his pieces and to moments when the individual has a “eureka moment” or epiphany. You can see about 550 of them up for auction here https://lnkd.in/egdJUU46

The combination of a brush pen and Copic markers creates fantastic art! Adding shades of grey to traditional brush pen art creates a truly mesmerizing masterpiece! Adding shades of gray to a black-and-white artwork enhances its visual depth and adds complexity, making it more engaging and dynamic. This technique allows for a nuanced representation of light and shadow, creating a sense of realism and dimensionality. By carefully applying gray tones, artists can evoke emotions and convey a rich narrative within their illustrations. This method provides a valuable learning experience for both illustrators and animators, allowing them to explore the intricacies of grayscale rendering and develop their skills in creating compelling visual compositions. Here is the continuation of 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters' artwork, from brush pen art to copic grey marker finished artwork.?

One of a series of some larger format paintings (this one is 4 feet x 4 feet), with aluminum paint base, I did back in 2006. I was experimenting with materials and composition. The alternative material, aluminum paint typically used for radiators, and de-centering identifying information, the perception of iconography in composition. Specifically, on how much/little of a classic logo needed to be depicted to be recognizable. (Kind of like in music identification, name that tune, finding the iconic ones where I can name that tune in one note. Example the first tone of MJ’s “Beat It,” from the Thriller lp.)

When I was in my 20s and 30s I wanted to be a professional fine artist. I painted many pretty pictures and displayed them at art shows around the Bay Area of San Francisco. Yet however pretty they were, they never had the “it” to be wildly successful, and I think in retrospect it was because I was emotionally superficial. I only wanted to see a world I thought was pretty. I avoided and bypassed anything I thought was ugly. There were a lot of ugly things in my life, and I didn’t want to deal with any of them. I found that I could escape those ugly things with some good music and wild colors on a canvas. But then if my art was so pretty, how come it was so hard to sell? Why didn’t people want it? What I realize now is that my art was superficial because I was superficial. It lacked the depth, rawness, and realness that brings BEAUTY to art. Beauty does not exclude pain; it welcomes pain knowing that pain is friction and friction is how a diamond is formed. Also, pain is relatable. Artwork that offers a transmutation of pain into beauty is haunting, alluring, and speaks to our souls. It’s priceless. We want to look at that painting to understand how the artist’s soul managed to do the elusive thing of turning pain into wisdom and beauty. The artist’s own journey of healing is visually transmitted by the art and it offers us a pathway to make the pain of our own lives into beauty. When we bring ourselves out of superficiality and feel our pain, we allow ourselves to transform and become beautiful and self-assured. Self-assurance and beauty sell a lot of art because everyone wants those qualities for themselves.

New work. My art continues in the tradition of collage—the juxtaposition of diverse forms and ideas to create a new whole. Given that definition, all art can be seen as a form of collage. I appropriate imagery from historic and contemporary artworks, adhering them to laser-cut wooden shapes inspired by the sculptural forms of Jean Arp, Henry Moore, and Lynda Benglis, whose sensual shapes, unique colors, and textures captivate me. By deconstructing and recontextualizing these works, I strive to create surprising, lyrical, and visually confounding compositions. The process is intuitive and responsive, a conversation with the materials that leads to abstract results. Unlike my past conceptual projects, I discover this work as I create it. These pieces partly emerge from my personal response to the fear, anger, and uncertainty permeating recent years. While personally still deeply engaged with contemporary politics, my art looks to the lasting power of art as I share the beauty and wonder found in the complexities and contradictions of visual pleasure. These assemblage works are most recent to date and can be found by on my website. https://lnkd.in/ggnWq_Pk
