I am in Aruba speaking at my FAVORITE medical conference,?Women Physician Wellness, and listening to all the other amazing speakers. ?One talk was about medical malpractice and hospital based peer support, which is essentially non existent in many institutions. This really struck a cord with me because of my personal experience with getting sued and how fucking awful it was. ?This has motivated me to add?Medical Malpractice Peer Support to the Rebel Physician community. Our first meeting will be May 22nd at 8pm EST. ?Here's how it will go: 1. I will tell you the information that I wish I knew before getting sued (how to prepare for deposition, coping with the repetitive trauma, all the BS lawyer stuff and how to play their game etc). 2. If you have experience with this and want to come to offer support and insight, PLEASE DO. 3. If you're currently in the weeds with a lawsuit, you don't have to give any details or talk about anything you don't want to. But you can come and talk about how shitty and isolating it is and allow your colleagues to offer support and guidance on how to navigate it. Comment below or message me your interest. I ask that you join the Rebel Physician Community (www.RebelPhysician.com) so that you get the email reminders and I know you're one of us ?? Once you're signed up, you'll get the zoom link.

I was happy to be one of three experts interviewed for this article in Woman's World magazine (an a360media publication) about what to do if your doctor dismisses your symptoms or pain. It's a short article, so if you want to know more about how to deal with physician dismissal, also check out my earlier column about it. “What warning signs should I watch for if this doesn’t resolve? Or what would be a sign that I should worry and come in again?” Those kinds of questions can prompt the provider to consider what could go wrong by sending you home and when they do, it often prompts a different plan. Gaslighting isn’t a character flaw as much as a symptom of limited resources—not enough time to find an answer or think through things, for example. Helene M. Epstein is spot on that focusing the conversation with a good history can make a big difference. Risk-based questions can also hone the problem from “too much to process” to “what’s the worst case to rule out?”

Imagine this: You walk into a doctor's office with a genuine health concern, only to be dismissed or told it's "all in your head." In a recent study, the National Institutes of Health explores the chilling reality of gaslighting in medicine, especially for women. This can be incredibly frustrating and leave you questioning your judgment. Have you ever felt like a doctor wasn't taking your concerns seriously? It's more common than you might think. How can we advocate for better communication in healthcare especially for women? #gaslighting #medicine #healthcare #patients #womenshealth https://lnkd.in/edz-Pdat

Physicians and researchers developed a simple three-question tool to screen patients for #PrecariousEmployment. The screening tool, published in Annals of Family Medicine, includes questions about non-standard employment, violations of occupational health and safety rights and protections, and income variability. Identifying whether patients face precarious employment is crucial in primary care settings. Clinicians can refer patients to programs that will help them understand their rights at work, actions to take when confronted with health or safety challenges, and pathways to seek new employment. A positive screen also provides more context on how work conditions may affect symptoms, such as exposure to physical hazards and mental health concerns. Authors: Julia W.?Ho,?Emily?Bellicoso,?Madeleine?Bondy,?Dorothy Linn?Holness,?Carles Muntaner, Rosane?Nisenbaum,?Arlinda Ruco, PhD MPH BScH CE,?Nadha Hassen, PhD,?Andrew?Hanna,?and Andrew Pinto. Deprescribing is built on TRUST... Kinda like the trust you place in the hands of a hot air balloon pilot 2,000 ft in the air. Because fostering trust is the key to patient-centered care. It expands over patients, family members/caregivers, prescribers, and other providers. And in order for deprescribing to be successful, each person must be comfortable in their role and knowledge to assist the patient in decision-making. But trust must be earned, and we must hold ourselves accountable for building a knowledge base that promotes healthy deprescribing practices. Our deprescribing accelerator gives you the tools to navigate credible resources and patient scenarios to model trust with your collaborators. So trust #geriatrx to be your pilot and sign up for our deprescribing accelerator TODAY! #deprescribing #patientcenteredcare
